Met an old timer today

Nine Lives
It is not ridiculous to speculate on Jim Casey's life as being out of the ordinary. Those who do not respond to the natural human desire to have a mate will always raise questions amongst those that do. Given the circumstances of the times he may have very well been a suppresssed homosexual that redirected his energy to his business. And if this is the case so what? Would it detract from his legacy?

You fanning the flames on JimJimmyJames Casey again?

Why can't Jim just have preferred bachelorhood? aybe he saw what his Mom went through and decided the idea of going through that pain wasn't worth it all. Whatever the case, Jim was a high quality man who started something that we can all be glad about, as well as our families.

I couldn't help myself, I just had to see how you would so cleverly use my name in word play again :funny:.

If I were a homosexual, I might be attracted to such a witty man such as yourself, you big thilly goose :winkiss:.

There's an older retired guy that belly's up to the bar at one of my favorite restaurants, every Wednesday. When I go in there for lunch, I sometimes find the bill has already been paid.

I see one of our retirees almost daily when I deliver to WalMart (no, he is not a greeter--he likes to "people watch" and what better place to do that than WalMart) and he asks me about UPS. I tell him he wouldn't recognize it.

I was 20 when I first started at UPS. A week into my probationary period I met the top dog on the seniority list. He started in June of 1957 - 6 months before I was born. I called him an old timer and he just smiled. I was at UPS for 6 years before our newest driver was born. I guess the old timer is me.

Thats just sad. Why would anyone go to Wal-Mart to people watch. The few times I've been to Wallyworld it is full of overweight toothless octo-moms. Isn't there any place else for this lost soul to people watch?:sad-little:

It's either WalMart or the mall and he does both.

I may have painted him in a bad light. He and his wife have done a lot of traveling since his retirement but he is still on "UPS time" so he is up and out of the house by 8, walking the mall and meeting his friends for coffee. They are enjoying a nice retirement, well-deserved after 30+ years.

Darlin, you are at the wrong Walmart then. One of our favorite activities is to go to the bigger malls and people watch. Very entertaining.:wink2:

Good for him! I hope I have the right attitude and the knees to do that when I retire!:happy2:

"Hang in there!"
There is a guy named Marty that works at the Woodbridge, MI hub that has close to 65 years with the company. He spots trailers for part of his day and clerks for the other part. When UPS was celebrating their 100th anniversary they took him all over the place. He has some very interesting stories if you can get him to stop moving long enough to tell them.

Did he have any guesses where Hoffa Sr. is today? If any of you younger people want to get a history lesson on the Teamsters watch the movie "Hoffa" with Jack Nickelson and Danny Davito. It may be one sided but it is a great movie

It's an OK movie but hardly a history lesson. If you want to know about Hoffa Sr. its much better to read something factual and learn something.

I never met him but he sure outlasted everyone else by many years! Talked to new top dog a couple times outside the yard...he was a distant 2nd of course till the guy you spoke of retired and I can't imagine going for that long either!
