My Buddy

I was on my knee digging an oversized package out from under shelf one when this guy jumped into the truck and got into my face. He is an 85 lb. purebred pit bull. Fortunately for me... he decided that the best way to introduce himself would be to LICK my face instead of chewing it off. I'm cool with that!:happy2:

I had a huge dog jump up the other day and lay a big wet one across my face.. it freaked me out I thought he was going to bite my face off instead I needed a towel to wipe off.. apparrently that is a trick they taught this huge dog..
I now go to the edge of the yard where the electric fence runs and wait. He stays on the other side just going nuts wanting to come give me a big wet one.. yuck:please:

I never actually had a dog touch me when I was helping but I did have a close encounters with a couple of 'em. I had a German Shepherd 'escort' me from a yard once. Another time, my driver told me there was a big, white dog that spent the day beneath a bush near the front door. I walked up the walk, calling for him but didn't see or hear him. I walked right by him. I had my back completely turned to him when he barked. I jumped five feet in the air and spun. There he was.....laying down in the shadows. He gave a doggy 'laugh' when I was looking at him and went right back to his snooze. Funny dogs..... -Rocky

Very nice dog! Have seen one almost identical to this one. Not so friendly however. You should have kept him for the day and trained him to deliver / retrieve your packages!

Friday I got a "customer request" message on my DIAD. The consignee was tracking their NDA Saver cell phone and wanted me to DR it at the rear door instead of by the garage door where I usually leave their stuff. I get to the house, and their Pit Bull is chained to the rear door not happy to see me and of course they aren't home. I left it at the garage door.

I encourage dogs to jump into the truck. They get to know me better, and it gets to the point where they become my buddies and cant wait to see me. I even have a couple that try to jump into my lap. I have no problem with big, slobbery smoochie dogs, those are the types that you dont have to worry about being bitten by. In 21 years, I have yet to meet a mean pitbull, every pit I have ever met has been a lick-o-matic.

Had a similiar incident years ago.I was sitting at a red light when a pit bull jumps in,thought i was going to be his lunch.Turns out he was very gentle. After this I started carrying a box of bones with me.I still do,when the regulars hear the truck coming they are waiting at the gate for their treat.

The big dogs never really bothered me. It's the little ones that I don't trust. You could stick a broomstick up their :censored2: , spray them with Endust and use them for dust mops. Years ago I had a dust mop dog follow me back to the truck yip-yapping all the way. As I stepped up into the cab, he grabbed my pant leg and I heard the rip. I looked at him, and with his head cocked to one side, he spit out a tiny piece of my pants. I threw my clipboard at him but I missed. Then we got our first DIADs. I soon discovered its power. I had a stop that needed a signature. I knew I was in trouble as I walked up to the house when I saw the sign that said, "Careful - Twinky is inside". The lady was signing when her 4 legged dust mop dog thought that I was going to be dinner. The evil creature bolted out the door and clamped its jaws onto my leg. The lady was in shock and just watched and said nothing as her dog chewed on my leg. I said excuse me and took the Diad out of her hands and gave the beast a whack across his head. He instantly let go and sat there dazed for a second or so. He was seeing stars as I was seeing red. He then ran yelping back to his broom closet.

Hear that. When we got the 1st DIAD I was making a delivery to a house where you had to open the gate and walk half a football field to the front door.Yard had a few cars in it.I get to the door and ring bell not knowing that a dirty looking poodle of some sort was hiding under one of the cars.He had probably done this to every delivery guy (or gal) that ever went there.Lady answers door and then whamo he bites the back of my leg and runs away.I said to myself no problem,I will get even one day.Sure enough a few weeks later I have a delivery for the same address,as I pull up I scan the cars and see him under 1.I walk plainly to the front door watching him out of the cirner of my eye.As I ring the bell I see him make his move, just as he gets to mee I turn and give him DIAD to head.He ran away and any time I went back to that house he never bothered me again.

I had a run in with a pack of three stray dogs Friday. I've dealt with them before, they tend to hang around two streets in a neighborhood I deliver in. They usually just come running up near the truck and bark at me the whole time while I'm delivering. This time they were not as nice and the alpha decided to come lunging at me. I gave it a good whack with the DIAD and during that whole fiasco, the smallest dog of the pack decides to come up towards my ankles. I tried to avoid stepping on the little guy, and in doing so I lost my footing, fell really weird, and now I am sitting in my living room with a cast over my left leg... guess the dogs won after all.

Why is that, without fail, the customer will always say, "Well, he's never done that before" whenever their dog bites someone.

The new DIADs are not nearly as effective as the older ones in altering a dogs behavior.

I remember when I started in 1986 there was a driver they called "mad dog".They said he got his nickname because 1 day he was trying to make a delivery to an old lady. The old lady had a dog that was trying to get out the door and take a piece of the driver. He told her to put the dog inside the house,(she was in the foyer) she kept saying oh don't worry he won't bother you.She opened the door and he ended up fighting with the dog.Lets just say the dog lost.So hence the name "mad dog".

The alpha dog went away on his own after being hit in the nose/face. He was whimpering/whining and left and the other dogs followed him. I felt really bad because I am a huge dog lover. But now that I'm in a cast and will be out of work for a while, I am not so sure I feel bad after all.
