You don't want what comes with high speed rail, and that's high density housing. If the American dream includes land for a home and family then population will be spread sufficiently to make high speed rail impractical in most places.

That makes absolutely NO sense. Watch some videos of other countries High Speed Rail --It's mostly in the countryside with lots of space. They don't go 250-300 mph in the city
