Part time poverty

So... Most package handlers are working to get their time in at UPS so they can one day make it as a driver? I’m hearing that it takes years for a package handler to work their way into the drivers seat.

But at the same time they hire people off the street to work as drivers. I was hired off the street and went straight to full time. However, I had experience as a delivery driver before coming to UPS.

Most are still college students working their way through college.
They leave UPS at a whim ... if you are smart enough to go to college, you don't have any desire to work for UPS long-term.

I live in california. Housing and gas prices are through the roof. My wife has medical problems its the only reason why i stick it out at ups. Im just tired of working more than 12 hours a day and still cant afford a house. I just wish there were more full time oppurtunities besides driving at ups, or if the wait time was shorter. Just stressed amd frusturated.
check out your dual citizenship options. you may be eligible. check out international man.

get out of america.

How do you expect to hire quality employees at 10 bucks an hour to unload trucks at 3 in the morning for 3 hours a day? Ups scratches its head in confusion when they see the turnover rate and the demographic of workers they attract. Give us a raise, give us hours, or let us double shift regularly. Something has to change.
just know that someone is getting very rich because you are poor.

I agree. I think the difference with UPS and other companies is.. at least at UPS their are better opportunities to make a decent wage if you put you're time in.

Yup, I get up at 3am, i work 4am till 8:30, then drive an hour to my other job and work until 6pm. Get to bed by 8.

I barely break even on my bare minimum expenses. If it takes 10 years to make a good wage and have full time, then having a family won't happen in my life. It's not ok.

lol that's cool. my mom drives me to work and i hit the gym after my shift. wanna get a frappe some time?

Yea, 7 years down the road. They give us :censored2: leaving 30 minutes early working a second job. How are you supposed to support a family on $200 bucks a week. If that.
I started driving 8 months after I started working here. It’s a minimum wage part time job. You aren’t entitled to a living wage when you work twenty hours a week. If you don’t like it move up or move on.

Yup. I work 3 jobs sister. All good. I don't expect a huge raise right away . Minimum wage is too low to survive. So maybe that's where the change is needed.

I'm fine with working my way up. Glad you moved up fast

You know what folks? I took a vow of loyalty to the teamsters and I meant it. If I heard any one of you screaming in the warehouse because your arm was getting ripped off, I would be there to help you.

This is it. We are screaming about poverty. And you have a responsibility to listen. This is real.
