Part time poverty

You know what folks? I took a vow of loyalty to the teamsters and I meant it. If I heard any one of you screaming in the warehouse because your arm was getting ripped off, I would be there to help you.

This is it. We are screaming about poverty. And you have a responsibility to listen. This is real.
Wrong on some many levels.
Also the Teamsters couldn't care less about you pledging loyalty to them.
You are just another dues paying member to them.

They didn't whine on the internet about it.

You have zero skills.
You are paid accordingly
Anyone who thinks loading a package car requires zero skill is a :censored2:ing maroon. Just putting boxes in a truck requires no skill, but loading it correctly and making sure the driver doesn't have a horrible day definitely requires skill!

I have to disagree with you on this one. A good preloader can make your day a bad one will ruin it.

Loading and unloading a trailer is not skilled, loading a package car correctly is.

I'm a star
Thank you. My Mom had an aneurysm when I was 20 and she has been semi functional since. It's a hard thing to prove to gov agencies because it's more subtle. Not paralysis or something that can easily be just seen. It left her more childlike and unable to understand her bills or to be very efficient at work. It effected her cognitive functions.

She gets partial social security because she took it out early at age 62. She has no savings or retirement, and she was no longer able to drive school buses due to her confusion.

So she's been working at a bakery that pays her minimum wage. They aren't very nice to her because she isn't as fast as her 20 year old coworkers and can't understand the computerized cash register.

Anyway, the PT bakery thing and the partial SS is not enough to make it so I took her in. I make too much to qualify for gov assistance, although I am technically in poverty. I make about 24,000 a year. I can't afford Obama care so I've been paying the tax fee for the last few years.

I'll be insured by UPS in October though, so that's major. I'm looking into making my mom a dependent. As her Medicare coverage is pretty bleak.

So there you have it.

I would go to your union hall and inquire about legal services. I don't know if you have to wait for that too, but it's one of our benefits. If you have access to legal services benefits, get yourself to a social security/disability lawyer and explain your situation. That way if you/your mom are entitled to more than you are getting, an attorney can help you with that.

And absolutely file a workers comp claim if your hernia happened as a result of compensated work. You can't be afraid to inform yourself about your rights, stand up for yourself, and demand what you have coming to you. Like I said, you have to take it upon yourself solve your own problems, no one is going to do it for you. Best of luck.

So... Most package handlers are working to get their time in at UPS so they can one day make it as a driver? I’m hearing that it takes years for a package handler to work their way into the drivers seat.

But at the same time they hire people off the street to work as drivers. I was hired off the street and went straight to full time. However, I had experience as a delivery driver before coming to UPS.

Thank you for all of this info! Will do. I considered filing a workman's comp claim. But I looked at the details in depth and i honestly don't know if I am really entitled to that in this case.

There wasn't a moment or an incident when it happened that i can pinpoint. A lump just gradually appeared in my groin. I thought it was a lymph node for a while until I got it checked out.

From what I have read, some people just have a weak muscle seam there genetically, and excessive lifting can push it open. It doesn't hurt, but it's dangerous if it gets worse I guess.

I'm grateful that i still have a job and am in small sort for now.
