I blocked every text I got, phone calls are never answered.

Polls can affect the outcomes of elections. People who think a candidate isn't likely to win are less likely to vote for them or contribute to their campaign. Candidates who show strong in the polls get tons more money. The amount of money spent on campaigning is strongly correlated with the likelihood of winning an election.
