Well, on Sunday, the secret service is going to sweep over the entire area, especially the parking garages/docks/etc., looking for IEDs. WTO and the historic inaugural event are apples vs oranges. The amount of military, secret service, police, homeland security, etc. will be unpresedented.
The traffic logistics will be a nightmare for all. D.C. will be shut down for two days. There is no way our drivers could get a block away from the restricted zones, it's just not going to happen. Besides, with so many businesses shut down, how many packages would get delivered?
To the OP, I doubt you will get paid for the days off; it's looking like lay-off days or the opportunity to help out other centers/preloads that will not be affected.

Thank you. In lieu of how many Americans have been hit by economics,
God forbid The Passing of the Torch with it's -10- multi million dollar inaugural balls be downplayed or even partially cancelled. Wouldn't it be nice to see during those two days some community service performed by the New Big Wigs instead (notwithstanding that D.C. contains some of the nations worst slums)... but on with the Pomp, the Ceremonies and the splendors fit for a King - even tho we chose not to become a Monarchy ...

They should have a simple ceremony. W will show up carrying the "football" and hand it off to B.O. W and Laura will then fly down to Crawford and fade in to oblivion. B.O. and the Missus will then walk across the Reflecting Pool and we will all live happily ever after. Amen.

this ones going to be interesting. With that many people going to DC we expect total gridlock. We expect to shut down the dc buildings and sit on loads until wednesday. we will also be redirecting the bypass loads from the north and south that normally travel the DC corridor. I thought there were plans to shut down the capital beltway around dc starting midnight monday morning? If so that forces all your bypass moves down two lane 301 which would not be able to handle the flow.
The real danger here is a terrorist threat. If one were to materiliaze this country would run the risk of losing 3 to 5 million hardcore liberals. ....
On second thought do we really need to waste our tax dollars on all that security?

I have been thinking along this same line. What if we had the next terrorist attack wipe out all our Federal officials at Inauguration or a State of the Union Address? Then we would have to start all over, which wouldn't be such a bad thing after all.

My mother-in-law is a retired officer in naval intelligence and we were talking about what some nut job might try in such a situation,such as a small nuke. She said all this stuff we`re talking about is just what they are letting us see. There are military planes on orbit with radiological sensors just making lap after lap from now until after the events are long over. I wouldn`t want to be the guy hauling any x-ray equipment and such. He`ll have a gunship escort before he gets anywhere near DC.
I don't consider my post as making a threat to the US Government. It just shows that I consider that they (both political parties) are doing a lousy job and do not represent the best interest of the American people. The internet is full of people with similar views. I could care less if somebody wants to listen to boring phone calls or read opinions posted on a board. I am not conspiring against the country I love and am just exercising my freedom of speech.
