and again I will say that Hedges has just changed the term to prophet from what these people actually were.... martyrs. At least in the biblical sense.

biblical definition
Simply put, a prophet is someone chosen by God to speak for God. Their job, whatever the time period or tidings, was to accurately impart His message. Men and women called to this task came from differing backgrounds, personalities and levels of social status. But what they all had in common was a heart for God, an anointing to hear from Him, and the faithfulness to impart his message to others.

“For prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human, spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit” (2 Peter 1:21).
God told the young Israelite nation He was to be their King, but the people clamored for a human king instead. As God put a succession of rulers in place, He provided prophets to advise them, and to declare His word directly to the nations. This was called the “classical age” of prophets.

Now,,,, which religion are you referring to?
in star wars off the top of my head yoda says "misread the prophecy could have been". obi wan says "You were the chosen one! It was said that you would destroy the Sith, not join them, bring balance to the force, not leave it in darkness."

in matrix they talk about prophecy too like someone coming back to end the matrix, end the war, bring freedom.

theres about 10000 religions worldwide.

im not sure how hedges was using the definition.

So you just generalize prophets with no real religious meaning? Just religion? No actual god or specific deity to receive prophetic knowledge from?

This is why I was suggesting that the word martyr may fit better

And that is a pretty specific definition of prophet. The people you indicated originally as prophets were not even worshippers of God of the bible. Socrates was not, Malcolm X was not, Isaac Babel was born Jewish but no fan of God of the Jewish faith. If your claim is that these are biblical prophets, then I very much disagree. I stand by martyr
i dont think they are biblical prophets, but maybe just prophets

btw was jesus punished for truth telling?

jesus spoke an ethical truth. he wasnt aligned with teh state or popular opinion.

did jesus " challenged the status quo, questioned authority, and forced society to confront its own contradictions and moral failings, much like prophets in religious or historical contexts who speak out against injustice and corruption."

They were just prophets of whom?

Jesus was not killed for any of the reasons that you persistently mention over and over. He wasn't here for fighting the Roman empire. He came to earth as prophesied to die in our place for our sins and to offer everyone a way to heaven. This was His purpose. The Jewish leaders hated Him because He claimed to be the Son of God Himself and they had Him killed as a blasphemer.
