Retaliation and UPS management blackmailing employees who have substance abuse issues.

Shift Inhibit

He who laughs last didn't get it.
Half our hub is on drugs. If they decided to drug test we’d lose like 75 percent.

I am curious how are these hourly workers are specifically being coerced or pressured into these false statements?
The pilots are threatened with; 'if you do not write this statement about this pilot; your unreported dui or refusal to submit to a chemical test will be reported by UPS to the FAA'. When reported; the pilot will then have their 1st class medical certificate revoked and will not be able to fly.

Or 'If you do not write this statement about this pilot; we will subject you to "voluntarily" enter the HIMS program.' The HIMS program (Human Intervention Motivation Study) where a pilot can be forced into an inpatient rehab facility for 5 months or longer. Lifelong monitoring for abstinence from alcohol is also a requirement. Testing can prove one used alcohol over a month from the actual use. Sometimes up to many months. "THE HIMS NIGHTMARE" is a great book exposing how the HIMS program is twisted into a tool to force pilots to become subservient to management; even to the point of failing to report safety or ethical issues. The following from the HIMS Nightmare book sums it up: "HIMS has grown to become a monster intended to put as many pilots as possible under the complete control of their employers, who may have their required FAA medical certificates revoked at any time, for any reason."

747 Captains at UPS earn $300K per year or more. If they do not cooperate; not only will they lose their job at UPS; they will be unable to fly for any airline. The loss of $300K+ per year is a strong motivator by itself. The potential loss of one's career is the ultimate hammer used to nail these pilots down. Where will they find an occupation outside of aviation that pays $300K ++ benefits per year?

UPS is fully aware of this practice. UPS corporate management encourages and endorses it. No action has been taken to stop this practice. No unfairly targeted pilots have been made whole. UPS is in possession of emails proving a UPS Corporate Security manager not only sought out pilots with substance abuse issues but then coerced these pilots into writing false statements as well. UPS is in possession of evidence that proves these pilots were dishonest in their statements.

It is beyond disturbing that pilots under pressure and stress from UPS are flying planes under duress.

Pilots who do not have substance abuses at UPS are fully aware of the retaliation and workplace violence that UPS has subjected other pilots to. They are afraid to address safety and ethical violations for fear of what will happen to them if they do.

What is the reasoning for the unreported DUI and or the refusal to submit to chemical testing?

The reason for not reporting is to keep one's flying eligibility and first class medical.
If one can game the system at the cost of selling their soul to UPS; they jump at the opportunity.
UPS Wins. The alcoholic and/or substance abusing pilot wins. Honest, safety conscious pilots lose their careers and livelihoods or worse.
The safety of the UPS Airlines and the general public loses. $$$$ is the winner.

What are you hoping to accomplish with this post?
Let's say you get shorted overtime pay. (Example) you file, you get paid. You tell other guys they should do the same. Management is going to target you again and shortchange you, but they're going to make it harder. They want you to be miffed and mouthy. You grievance, you get it. What a union hero! The system works! And now to set an example. Now you don't do drugs or drink. Infact your a good guy. But pre-load Jimmy Boozehound is in trouble. (Not picking on pre-load) He's been drinking in the bathroom again. Out of the blue, loss prevention wants to talk to you about missing cellphone's. You see, LP can boot Jimmy any time they want. But you... You need to be taken down a notch. And so begins the false narrative about how you need to be looked at more closely... for everyone's safety. What's that? Your getting upset... Are you yelling? I think you need to have anger management therapy on Saturdays.
A version of this happened to me. It gets to you. Gets in your head.
