retirement gift

I was literally telling someone this afternoon about my wife selling off my gear like she was running her own got damned thrift shop out of our garage. And, wouldn't you know after being on hiatus for over a month, I decided to come on here just this evening to see what has been going and this is the first alert I get in my notifications.

Why cant the heavens and earth align like this S* when I'm playing the lottery or at the casino?

When you retire, maybe they will have a metal detector in the retirement catalog?

Figures...work for the company for 25-40 years busting your balls, breaking your back, crippling yourself, and you get to pick one of the S*ttiest defectors on the market. I'd rather spend the $3500 on a great detector and have my wife sell the thing off. Much less painful that way!

I finally picked the air compressor as my retirement gift. My old one died before I moved and I'm building a workshop in my garage now. I don't care for jewelry, I already got the class ring on my 25th anniversary.

So if I work here 75 years I get a air compressor????
If they still have a retirement catalog then. Not much of a selection at all, most of the stuff looks like something from an overstock surplus store. $100-175 value to the stuff. I remember when they gave riding lawnmowers and Remington 870 12-gauge shotguns. One final letdown from the company.

They used to give fantastic prizes for years of service, safe driving and for retirement
But it is one of those

Give me a 30 pack of my little lite when I retire and I'll be happy

Latest rumor they will discontinue catalog and replace the retirement gift with a frozen turkey.
I didn’t even want a frozen turkey. When I retired I told them I didn’t want anything and don’t even mention I’m retiring. I walked out of that place after 39+ yrs without even a mention that I was leaving. Just send me a monthly check and they can shove the rest up their :censored2:. They crap on guys for years and the guys complain for years and then come retirement day they stand there and let them say some meaningless words over them and accept some trinkets. Sorry not me.

I got my retirement gift today, the red Porter Cable air compressor. I was surprised UPS delivered it. I’m breaking it in while I enjoy a few beers. It’s sitting between the Dewalt Miter Saw/Delta Drill Press I got 25 years ago for my 20th. Those have served me well for a long time. The work bench I just finished as my latest project.

I have the Dewalt Miter Saw and Delta Drill Press too. I use the saw a lot but have never used the drill press.

Like that’s gonna happen! I needed one so what the Hell, it saved me a hundred bucks. I did run into one of my old supervisors last night at a restaurant and enjoyed her company. Very attractive woman I party with sometimes.

Only at UPS, a multi Billion dollar company, can you give them 25, 30, 35 or 40 yrs and then get a $100+ retirement gift. But to post pictures of it proudly? 😅. I’ve had people ask me what UPS did for me after 39+ yrs? When I told them what I “turned down“ they look at me in disbelief. One guy said to me that would be like being a waiter and busting your butt on a large table and then they leave you a penny tip 🤔. I guess you could look at that penny as a penny you didn’t have but I would rather make a statement and tell them you must need it more than I do so “stick it up yours”

I’m not that bitter about my career like a lot of people seem to be. I always had money in my pocket and live a lot better than most people do. If I hated the job that much, I could have found something else to do. I learned early on to ignore to negative parts and focus on what I enjoyed about it. Most of my management were decent people, a few of them weren’t. They get treated worse by the company than us hourlies in my opinion. I enjoyed my co-workers and customers, I do miss them.

I can overlook a lot of things that happened during my career here but last year was unforgivable.
Every one of those bastards has special place in hell
