Runners......

I would love for you to try and prove this point, with facts and data.
In fact, out of the last 23 years I have worked at UPS, 15 yrs have been spent under a Republican President.
Guess what?
My wages increased under the evil, anti-union Republican's ( non-protection) each and every year.
So, for you to make such a blanket statement, without any supporting evidence, is just plain ludicrous.

Valid point. That is true for you, but not for non-unionised americans, which are certainly the vast majority.

I was referring to the rest of the nation, not the few who are lucky enough to still have a strong union.

Before the evil Reagan came along, higher wages for blue collar workers such as ourselves were much more prevalent. Just because all of your neighbors got ***********but you didn't, doesn't mean there isn't a rapist on the loose.
OK, that was funny :happy-very:

Blue eff, your all over the place here. Pick a stance and stay with it. You make a ridiculous statement, someone calls you on it and all of a sudden that wasn't what you meant but something else. Atta Boy. Learn something about debating then learn something about the subject and then get back to us. The overwhelmingly obvious fact is that your very limited exposure to what a driver's job actually entails disqualifies you from making the judgements you have made. In short you have no clue.
BTW, I've seen no one "attack" you or your claimed mysterious physical condition, so that aregument is as hollow as your head.

I have to agree with Jones... the last line is funny!

However - The Chosen One is going to drive business right out of this country and along with it .... lots of union jobs! Wait for the re-organization of GM - watch the wages go lower and lower. That is .... if the company does not sell off the divisions one by one.

No matter how you look at it ... there are going to be less union jobs under The Chosen One.

There is nobody to blame now except Himself and President ("Pop-up")Pelosi. He has the power to fix things and everything "Pop-up" has done is heading us deep into the first depression since the Great Depression.

Hail to the Chosen One:rofl:

First, I hope none of the drivers are taking this personally. It's smart to find a job that pays more than it's worth.

Also, apologies for the inappropriate material in my previous post. It was the best analogy I could think of.

That said, the only drivers that bother me are the self righteous ones who honestly believe they earn those wages, and get offended when managers ask them to pick up the pace. Out of all the drivers I have helped over the years, the runners seemed to be the best people from an overall standpoint. The runners I worked with seemed to do it out of duty, to get the boxes out quickly as possible to serve the customers and get UPS their money's worth. Surely some runners have other motivations, none that I encountered.

This company would do better to have more runners, might I be so bold to say!

I see your point. But I am a very observant person, and doing driver helper gave me a good idea of what it takes.

You could say I was only doing it for 5 hours a day, which is a fair point. But I would go work the twilight sort shortly thereafter, so it isn't like I wasn't working a full day.

I paid attention to my driver and studied everything he did down to the finest detail. An easy job in general? Absolutely not. But relative to the wages, well, I can't give the same answer there.

Would you try to become a FT driver in the future? If yes, then what is your reasoning?

Why so there are less jobs for me and others like me who are wanting to drive because we truly like the job?

More injuries for the company and a chance to loose one of the better paying jobs considering the economy?

BE - This is a back-handed compliment if ever I heard one! The company has made a lot of money and the union is making sure that the employees share in the wealth. There is nothing wrong with that. Union employees as well as management share the wealth through high wages, great benefits and retirement packages. We know that there are people on both sides that want more but let's leave greed out of this thread for now.

The employees work hard and deserve the wages they get. In turn, they buy new cars, homes, lots of other goods and services, and give lots of money to their favorite charities.

This is Capitalism at it's best!

I can tell you if the company wasn't doing well, the wages would be a lot lower and there would be a lot less jobs.

But don't worry, you have your demagogue and socialism is just around the corner. You are getting just what you asked for!!!

... Unfortunately so will everyone else!

Not to mention the old saying "you get what you pay for".. you pay us 10 dollars or so less an hour and now you have the quality of a fed ex driver... nowhere near the quality of a UPS driver... Pay us even less and now you have a DHL driver. You see where that gets you. Even when they were around, look at what you got for the pay..

No, Id say we are paid well, but worth every cent.

I was going to absolutely lambast you for all of this nonsense you just spewed, but suffice it to say, I'd be wasting my breath. You, my young, inexperienced, part timer, need a dose of reality, pronto!:surprised:

This thread is actually about Runners and Gunners. Not driver helpers. But either one will put more teamsters out of a job in the long run.

Yes. Let UPS instate more helpers so instead of one person doing one job, there will be two people doing one job all year long!

This thread and responses remind me of the old TV commercial with the line:
"I'm not a doctor, BUT I play one on TV"

I use to run years ago, I would still run if I would get my bonus pay, and if they would allow it. They know what I am capable of doing so my stop counts stay between 145-155. I can get 2 9.5 in a week and then they back off just enough on my count the rest of the week so I can not get a chance to sigh the 9.5 list.

I am now tired of working 9 plus hrs. a day and now I just say screw it and come back by 5-6, it would not be so bad but to get bonus is almost impossible now. So for me an 8 hr. day is 145-155 plus my pick ups, and OCA's.

When you have lived through 12 presidents and been able to see first hand what works and does not work .... maybe you will have a little more perspective on the issue.

There has been many threads on the issue and depending on your view you will see what you want to see. I contend that successful business that expands and grows create more jobs across all sectors and spectrums. People who have confidence in their jobs and business will spend money. This helps the economy flourish and grow.

If you stifle growth through heavy taxation as well as government control you lose the chance for prosperous business opportunity. Business will flounder and so does more/better paying jobs.

Experience enables wisdom, which gives us the ability to see through the fog and to the next horizon.

How about we give him more than a couple months,, give him a full term before we cast judgement????

  • Since NAFTA and the WTO were put in place, the U.S. has lost more than 3 million jobs, while most new jobs are in the low-paying service sector, particularly temp and retail.
  • The Bush administration has the worst job creation record since Herbert Hoover.
  • "Free trade" has brought mixed results to many developing countries--often spurring growth in investment and trade flows but failing to improve wages and working conditions http://www.epipolicycenter.org/blm-trade_and_jobs.pdf you are a teamster member ???

I'm not going to get into a big debate on this thread, political discussions really belong in the political forum.
Having said that, I stand by what I have said, "YOU aint seen nothing yet!"
BTW, Bill Clinton signed the NAFTA bill into law.

Yes I am a member of the teamsters union, thank you for asking.
