I totally agree it is nice to just shut the door and go into your own little zone except when the PT preload sup runs up and down the stairs to my office asking about a bulk stop and what should he do with it or how to fix a scanner or some other technical issue that he should really know how to fix

Learning dispatch made me a better sup. I understand the whole area a lot better and know who has what.

Do you have seat time? Years of seat time? If not you'll never understand this job.....but if you do I applaud you, you're one of the few.

Everybody says that I don't know the job because I didn't do it for years, but everybody knows my job and have never walked a day in my shoes.

Edit....btw you don't walk you sit....I spent a day in the office when I broke my ankle and all management did was talk about bull safety stuff and what they were getting for lunch....dispatch supervisor s also don't do . Their jobs will be replaced by machine learning in a few years. And if you guys up no harm no foul.

There is human knowledge that a machine can't replace and local area knowledge is something that no one far away would ever learn if they tried to outsource dispatch.. As a dispatch sup. I arrive at my center at 1am and stay until 11 or so everyday doing all sorts of other stuff that has to be done or everything would fall apart. I try my best to make sure every driver is Dispatched accordingly and within reason this is one reason my center is usually number one on the dispatch scorecard for our region! I try my best everyday. If I do mess up I learn from that mistake and try my best to correct the issue so it doesn't happen again.

If I walked up to the ORION computer in the AM and found a split with no commercial stops scheduled for after 1700 I'd probably poop my shorts.

If you even can, I find it hard to believe that the computer wouldn't just identify them. The real problem is do you even care. Most likely not. We know you are likely to get lazy and focus on stops/car and find the easiest/convenient way for you to achieve that while ignoring how that plays out for the driver. You can admit it. I'll admit that I just don't care if I bring back businesses because they weren't open after 4pm. Years ago I used to take pride on not having send agains... these days I'm by-the-book. Half the truck can be send agains...I just don't care.

I don't think you understand what machine learning is. But that's ok, one way or another it's gonna bite you in the ass.
