Small Sort Package Handler

Had a damaged box with no contents. Set it aside and kept working my ass off scanning and sorting. Right before the end of my shift I was escorted to my managers office and then security and steward were added. They basically accused me of stealing and forced me to resign or have charges filed. I hadn't even clocked out and was about to discuss damaged empty box with sup. Is that stealing? What did I take? What are my next steps?

Don't sign anything. Get a shop steward to be with you during any discussion about this.

So many questions:
  1. Why do they think you took the contents of the damaged package?
  2. Is there any evidence that supports that (video? witness? did you have the package contents? (I sure hope not))
  3. Does anyone know what the contents of the damaged package were?
  4. Did anyone try to find the contents of the damaged package?
  5. Does LP have any video cameras in the area in question?
  6. Is there a procedure for what to do if you find a damaged/empty package?
Seems to me they are jumping to conclusion if they have not done any of the above.

Did you resign?? I sure hope you didn't. If you resigned then your next step is finding a new job. If you didn't then your next step is filing a wrongful termination grievance and speaking with your BA.

Never resign!!!!

Sounds like a frame up job. They salt loads.
Is there any reason you have a target on your back and they wanna get rid of you for revenge?

I did not take anything. I took the security investigator, my manager and the Union Steward to small sorts to show them where the alleged offense occurred. I found an item under the slide that I presumed was the "stolen" product. I was expecting my small entourage to collectively breathe sighs of relief. Mystery solved. Then they all escorted me out of building, took my I.D. and said "Good Luck"! I was in shock and still am.

so what was their ruling on the reason for termination? doesnt seem to make sense to me if the item was found. im sure you can choose to appeal if thats what you want to do.

How can you be sure that the "found " item belonged in the empty box ?

Seems like the whole story is not being told here.

There may be a history of “missing” packages/items in the employees work area.

Generally, where there is smoke there is fire. Employees don’t realize how much they can be watched/tracked.

I can't be sure. My thoughts are they could have looked in box for shipping info to see if the found item was supposed to be in box but they never even checked in my presence. Either they didn't want to be proven wrong or they just wanted me gone. I would like to know what I am officially accused of as I left with what I came with so it can't be theft.

I’ve seen employees hide stuff out of boxes to come back and steal them later. They always get caught because they get greedy and try it once too often lol.

Seems convenient that you found it right when it was brought up. If you did or didn't doesn't matter. That straight up made it seem like you just stashed it to grab later and walk out with it. So it wasn't in your possession but at first you just said it was an empty box then you said in a later part that you walked the entourage out and mysteriously found an item.... yeah... doesn't look good.
