The Immigration Issue

I guess they have run out of deserving young people who are from this country that they could help.......
Via Washington Times:

Notre Dame University announced Thursday it will begin admitting illegal immigrants to the school and will provide them with financial aid, saying the move will “strengthen” the student body.

The university had never had an official ban on illegal immigrants but Inside Higher Ed reported the school treated them as international students and required them to have student visas — which effectively served as a bar.

“We will strengthen our incoming class and give deserving young people the chance for a Notre Dame education,” Don Bishop, associate vice president for undergraduate enrollment, said in a statement announcing the policy.

The university also said it “is committed to meeting the full demonstrated financial need for all admitted students.” Illegal immigrants are not eligible for federal student aid, but the university’s announcement signals that Notre Dame would make up the difference between the cost and what the student and his or her family can afford.

What about our "own" southern border?? Its less than 9% of the TOTAL immigration problem in the united states. ON the other hand, Mexicos pourous borders from central america cannot handle the thousands of illegals entering there and then simply hopping on a plane and FLYING into the united states.

You have to understand the complexities of immigration if you are attempting to label yourself as a great mind.

In the meantime, its just an empty thought.

Mexico is rather harsh when it comes to their own illegal alien problem. Many of theirs, if not all of them, are just on their way here though. Our border is more porous than people think. I personally know, and know of, plenty of people that have crossed (illegally) numerous times just in the past year. I know a guy that has crossed so many times during the past decade that he can't even remember exactly how many times he's actually done it. He is not a exactly a coyote but he helps friends and family cross. Looking at media and government controlled statistics online about border security and actually talking to friends and relatives that have experienced it paints two completely different pictures of whats actually going on our border and also in the interior of our country. Don't believe the hype, or maybe I should say "downplaying", about immigration.

Likely not a whole lot different from how we established their northern border 160 plus years ago. Never heard you complain about that!

let's see if I recall this correctly .
The US Army at one point captured Mexico City .
While every campaign to take over Canada failed .
That sound about right ?
And that's how we got klein .

How fitting!! a story from americas favorite "illegal alien baby" Michele Malkin! Its always nice to hear from Michele Malkin, a border baby born in the united states to parents on expired student visas.

Yes, she's the expert on illegal immigration, because simply put, her parents violated the law to stay in the united states and then had michele making her an american citizen.

Thanks for sharing this experts opinion on immigration.

Typical response from you.
Can't discredit the story , so you attack the author .
That should earn you an extra gold star from the WH.

Reagan agreed to amnesty then with the condition the Democratic Congress secure the border - which they never did.

Define control, because it is a two edged sword. Amnesty happended in 1986. Study some actual history and report back with FACTS, not revisionist history.

[h=2]U.S. Releases 2,837 Convicted ILLEGAL ALIEN Sex Offenders — Many Are Freed Without Supervision or Speedy Deportation[/h]The news last week that federal authorities had to release 2,837 convicted sex offenders back onto the streets has renewed focus on a Supreme Court case that requires the government to release immigrants whose home countries won’t take them back.
A report released last week by the Government Accountability Office said the nearly 3,000 sex offenders are part of the 59,347 immigrants who the courts have ruled cannot be held, whom the U.S. has been unable to send home, and who instead were released under some sort of supervision as of September 2012.
The GAO took a sample of the sex offender cases and concluded that about 5 percent of the time U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement didn’t ensure that the immigrants released were properly registered with local authorities as sex offenders.
“I’m surprised that only 5 percent of them are not properly registered,” said Jessica Vaughan, director of policy studies at the Center for Immigration Studies.
She said ICE isn’t particularly rigorous about monitoring many of those it releases.

If their own country will not take them back , then we should place them into a secluded location away from the general public .
There is plenty of gov't land out there that is suitable .
Make life here unbearable .

Why arent you screaming at the republican/conservative Supreme Court for issuing the ruling that makes this possible? If you are outraged, then you should be outraged against your own party on the high court, they are in charge and the majority.
