The Russians Are Coming, The Russians Are Coming!

Russia has a huge amount of territory with abundant natural resources yet their economy is the size of the Texas economy. They're a world power due to Soviet nukes.

China is a world power due to capitalism and the world moving manufacturing there to take advantage of abundant cheap labor.

Yeah, but my point is look at their countries before.

i get it that’s why China ended up in a starvation. I’m not against capitalism, but it definitely has it faults that people ignore.
I would say it’s crony capitalism that has the faults. I can understand why the younger generation is disillusioned with what they think is capitalism, it has been co-opted by statists on the right and the left picking the winners and losers with government funding to enrich themselves.

We have a diversity of ideas on display. The danger is when one group wants to shut down any ideas but their own.
I think you might’ve hit on the central point, I can argue even with a guy like @rickyb, and I generally don’t agree with a lot of his philosophy‘s, but I think he has a right to share it. Many of us are Gen Xers, we raised much of the people who are disillusioned with capitalism we need to do a better job explaining what real capitalism is. Even though I must be an old head because I laugh at some of them as they complain about capitalism and go to Starbucks and use their iPhones.

Well, imagine being told you’re not working hard enough while trying to save for 800k house. Or even paying some ridiculous rent in a :censored2:ty area.

I do understand, remember it wasn’t that long ago the baby boomers were yelling at us to stop listening to grunge music and get a job.

The national average is now ridiculously high. You're not going to find many houses less than $700k in safe neighborhoods in California.
So not only is the average not a million, now the standard is whatever you determine to be a "safe neighborhood". GMAFB.

You're proving my point that they're being drama queens.

Hey Ricky, the U.S. is wealthy because of its current system, capitalism. Millions of people are trying to get into the U.S. to have a better life. You want us to toss it all in favor of a system that isn't working anywhere. A relative handful of people in Italy doesn't prove anything. We don't even know how well they're doing. We have it bad enough in the U.S. dealing with one side which wants to take from those who produce and redistribute it to everyone. They're threatening to bring it all down. You honestly don't have a clue how things truly work.

United States is wealthy because we are Europeans of western descent. The Swedes do well with their socialist utopia (before they invite the third world in). White people, no matter what the monetary system, usually maintain some sort of prosperous civilization because it’s just in our blood. It has less to do with a monetary system and more to do with the genetics of our people. We maintain civilization while others live in squalor, because they simply cannot maintain it. Genetics, environmental factors, whatever it may be. Sun Saharan Africans didn’t even have a single written language when we arrived to colonize it in the 1800s. It is what it is.

And will never be. Most people I know keep their cars until they have too many problems to be worth keeping. Where exactly do you think jobs come from if nothing new is made? And if you have different clothes in your closet aren't you guilty of having stuff that isn't being used? I can only wear one set a clothes at a time. I'm not going to wear a coat in the summer. You haven't thought all of this out.
i guess the system doesnt work then? we live in the future, we should have a leisure economy. but because private banks lent more money which drove up housing prices, ppl want to even work OT, which takes away jobs.

regarding cars, which are terribly inefficient, they are incompatible with each other. parts are not interchangable. automakers stop making the part. so you end up throwing away a car bc 1 little thing breaks.

yea obviously some things should be privately owned, and not a rental system like the library, but all too often its not true.

capitalism centralizes too much power. you should check out yanis varoufakis and chomskys comparisons of corporate capitalism to the economy of the soviets and how similar they are.

we learn whats wrong in these systems by comparing the similarities, not the differences

btw alot of the tech in phones is govt, i can show you a pic if you'd like

no you have 1,000,000+ corona deaths

u use slave labor

you have guantanamo and black sites around the world. largest prison pop in the world

and your financial system never recovered from 2008. its a ponzi scheme
What slave labor? And the U.S. has enemy combatants to deal with a sites to deal with them. And its been proven repeatedly that not all covid deaths were due to covid. And our financial system works just fine if you keep politicians out of it. And if there are excesses it works itself out. China's is collapsing because of a lack of understanding of economics.

your financial system collapsed bc u deregulated it

america financialized, china industrialized which is what america used to do. guess which is better

Ricky truly believes all rights, all opportunities, and all environmental, and societal problems should be solved by Central planning. The problem with that is if some people don’t like how the problems are solved the central Planners Will force you. It’s a terrible idea that has failed with disastrous consequences everywhere it’s tried.
capitalism is central planning

only capitalism i support is 1 person worksites. no employees.

I think he's referring to the average cost of homes in California is now a million. What these people never get is California was once a prosperous, well run Republican state. People moved there to get ahead including a lot of liberals. The liberals looked at all that prosperity and thought they could build something really special where everyone could benefit. So taxes were raised. And raised. And raised. Free this and that were given out. Prices rose to pay those taxes and still make a living. Now they have a huge homeless problem because prices are too high. And they're the first to say "see, capital doesn't work." There's not a Democratic controlled state or city where costs and taxes aren't high. Meanwhile all the Democratic politicians seemed to have gotten rich on just their government salaries. Amazing.
reagan was a corrupt corporate spokesman
