2/5 who wouldn't be part of any official military or gov't agency. They'd be clandestine and unknown, but they'd have access to large hidden caches of heavy weaponry. In the case that socialists gained power in a country, these units would kick into action without any oversight.

3/5 They would go about threatening & murdering important socialists &/or left-leaning leaders. This gave the US & NATO a secret Nazi army that would "neutralize" left-wing leaders. These units remained active as late as 1990.

4/5 Operation Gladio was involved in a fair amount of threats & terrorism against left-wing & communist movements. Gladio is likely responsible for the 1978 murder of the Italian Prime Minister and possibly involved in the 1986 assassination of Swedish prime minister Olof Palme.
