Putin dreams of reconstituting the Russian empire to the fullest extent possible.
Part of it is imperialism. big part is nato expansion why he invaded.

President Vladimir Putin has compared himself to Peter the Great, saying he shares the the 18th-century tsar's goal of returning "Russian lands" to a greater empire.

Speaking after visiting an exhibition to celebrate the 350th anniversary of Peter's birth on Thursday, Putin drew a parallel to his own invasion of Ukraine.

"Peter the Great waged the Great Northern War for 21 years. It would seem that he was at war with Sweden, he took something from them," he said, according to a translation from Reuters. "He did not take anything from them, he returned [them]."

Referring to the Ukraine invasion he said: "Apparently, it also fell to us to return [what is Russia’s] and strengthen [the country].”

"Fight to the last Ukrainian."

I feel sorry for the Ukrainian people that they were used by the west as pawns. Their country is destroyed they are losing the war they never had a chance of winning and the west is washing their hands of them. The same people who so despise Biden support what he was doing with Ukraine …..they should’ve known better. Everything he touches is abject failure and despair. A negotiated peace agreement was always The answer and the Biden administration had no intention on helping avoid this war because it helped to cover for their failures at home.

The whole situation could have been avoided too. That's the real scandal behind all this.

Wait, what happened to all the claims by Fox News that Russia was getting its ass kicked?
I drive around a lot of neighborhoods that Have The virtue signaling “In this house we believe” signs in the front yard.
Many of them had Ukraine flags I don’t see them anymore. I wonder if we can get our billions of dollars back that did absolutely no good except stir the pot and get a lot of Ukrainians killed in their country scorched.

Nope. That's why I've been calling my senators and house reps to yell at them for voting yes on this :censored2:.

We've got enough problems here. :censored2: Ukraine, :censored2: Russia, and :censored2: NATO. Spend American money on Americans or don't spend it at all.

“Finally, we can't help but see the irony that Washington is urging farmers to buy Russian fertilizer (implicitly in part funding Putin's war against Ukraine), while at the same time providing arms and funding to Ukraine (in Ukraine's war against Russia).”

The Russian government has barely been affected by the sanctions. the people have. Just like the rest of the world.

Most believe that. As usual Joe Biden miscalculated.

Russia won’t take all Ukraine. I don’t believe they ever wanted to.

They're actually getting richer, while people in EU countries are potentially in store for a cold and/or expensive winter.

In this article by Scott Ritter, written back on January 10th (a full month and a half before Russia entered Ukraine), he claims that Russia can withstand sanctions far longer than the EU can go without Russian energy. So far his prediction has held up well. The EU is starting to show cracks.

I have yet to see any evidence that he's retreated from an area he planned to take long term.
He was attempting to take Kyiv. He was attempting to take Odesa and cut off Black Sea access. He was losing big time until he massed his troops near the Russian border. He had every intent to take the whole country and either install a puppet or incorporate Ukraine back into Russia.
