rickyb, you keep talking about democracy. The United States is a Republic, thank God. Not sure if you know the difference.

This means that in your democracy, if the people wanted to take up a vote to give government control over free speech, a majority vote could overturn the freedom of speech. Recent votes on college campuses actually supported the idea of curbing free speech! We are witnessing such stupidly among the millennials it's scary. Anyway, this cannot happen in the US. Free speech, as an example, is our right and cannot be infringed no matter what.
