Technically yes, we could hold it 2 days and deliver it on the 3rd day to make service. Logistics!

For which the idiot shippers pay more for. People are amazing. We used to see a lot of 2nd day air stuff shipped from MPLS. Mpls stuff always got here in one day by ground (unless it was shipped 2 day air)

I picked up a 2nd day air at a business once that was addressed to 4 doors down from where it was shipped.

Years ago we had a title company ship documents across town to a banking institution. They actually had to drive by the bank to the drop box.
Don't get it.....

Cadillac used to send ALL their advertising out Next Day Air. The Chevy/Cadillac dealer on my route only sold 2 or 3 of them a year mainly to the same dozen or so rich families. The parts manager used to sign for his stuff and immediately throw all the Cadillac advertising in the trash--unopened.

20 years ago my buddy on a campus route picked up a next day air that was addressed across the street. It was an apartment building; they weren't home 3 days in a row, and on the fourth day he delivered it back across the street to the shipper. I'm pretty sure it took a trip to Louisville as well, as all NDA's did back then.

We had a new driver forget a NDA in his car a few weeks ago. It was staying in state and would get there the next day by just going on the trailer, but management refused to make service on it by putting it on the trailer. Instead it went on the plane the next day. I still don't understand the logic in that.

I thought those ride with the grounds all the time.

Must be FedEx. My local UPS store would give me 10% off with an employee ID. I've heard some will only give 5%.
It depends on the service you're getting. TUPSS automatically assigns discount values to particular items (printing, copies, packing, etc.) And the last time I had a UPS member use their discount it only applied to one category as opposed to the entire bill, unless they've since changed it in the Corporate Accounts.

The AAA discount is one of the easiest and best we like using. I'd have to look again but I think it is 10% or 15% on shipping and 5% on packing. And it has the added benefit of an easier reimbursement from AAA.

So technically we could hold it for a couple more days before delivering it?
It is already happening with certain shippers called hold and redirect, exactly like SurePost where we hold it if there is another piece coming for the address the next day.

3 Days are considered an air service. But they do NOT have to be separated out with your NDA. Overwhelming majority of 3 Days will never see the inside of an aircraft, but because there is a chance it is treated as an air service.

I once heard, many moons ago, that they have trailers of it at the airport, and load up the empty space on aircraft with it. That is why some get there early.

It's done during the day sort in Louisville if it needs to go by air. So something from say CT to LA will fly from the Bradley Gateway tomorrow morning to Louisville, then get sorted on a plane to Ontario, CA tomorrow afternoon. So it can arrive a day early. Or they may send it through the ground network to Louisville tonight and it makes the sort on Wednesday and flown in Wednesday afternoon. All depends on the sort plan.
