Vaccine distribution

Wife and I had this discussion the other night. She’s in the healthcare field and got her vaccine a few days ago.

We both agree that the elderly should have been first in line not healthcare workers. As I thought more about it though why are we going through groups of people and not doing a regional distribution?

We could do much more to slow the spread of this if we were concentrating these early doses in regional hotspots.
My feeling is 1) Healthcare Providers/First Responders 2) Elderly in Nursing Homes 3) Elderly with complications* 4) Elderly 5) Essential Workers 6) Republicans/Conservatives 7) Democrats/LibTurds**

* Older adults and people who have certain underlying conditions like heart or lung disease or diabetes are at increased risk of severe illness from COVID-19 illness.

** Maybe never

But why Healthcare Workers? They aren’t that vulnerable? They aren’t dying all over.

Sure in some areas systems are stressed but you could do more by mass distribution of vaccines to the general public in those areas than you’re going to do by treating healthcare workers all over.

This isn’t widespread crazy spread. In fact many places have had their peak and numbers are reducing.

So you hit the places like California hard with vaccines. Sure include the healthcare workers there but it makes no sense to just automatically say all healthcare workers first
Because they could be spreaders and even super-spreaders.
