I’ll read Howard Zinn’s book, just because you all praise it and defend it. I want to tear down your hero with real examples of how he is a fraud and what he is taking out of context or glossing over.

I can agree with this, doesn’t change the fact you can’t even read the first page of Howard Zinn without recognizing it as liberal porn.

I read more of it, he is focused on La Casa and genocide. Which is fine, the treatment of the natives wasn’t good. He is painting a picture of genocide destroying the populations though, which isn’t true. The main cause of native deaths was disease. He is doing this all from one source and neglecting others. He also threw out estimates of 8 million slaughtered which is unfounded.

We have learned to give them exactly the same proportion of attention that teachers and writers often give them in the most respectable of classrooms and textbooks. This learned sense of moral proportion, coming from the apparent objectivity of the scholar, is accepted more easily than when it comes from politicians at press conferences. It is therefore more deadly.”
He conflates his opinion with fact here and goes off into rant. It’s sad this is considered a history book.
At least when I purchase Mark L3vin’s Unfreedom of the Press(available now on amazon and at your local retailers) I know I’m getting a political book with a heavy bias.

He also isn’t highlight that Casa was a devout Christian who was opposing the treatment of natives from a religious stand point, that doesn’t seem important for his rewrite of history.
Casa felt Spain would face divine punishment for what it was doing to the natives.
He glossed over about 30-50 years in 8 pages highlighting all the bad and using the most anti-colonialist source you could find at the time.

I don’t read Howard Zinn books and consider them absolute truth. While reading anything historical I like to cross check the sources and learn what was really said. Especially with a book that will cover multiple topics and not have time to really dig into the fat of the subjects.

It's funny, I agree with you: I love Jesus, but I have very serious problems about the way Jesus's message has been co-opted by political forces.
Buddha and Jesus were both radicals in terms of their message...
