When you got the offer how long did it take you to learn your 5/10

31 years and I still have not memorized it verbatim...

You don't even have to make an attempt at it.

I never memorized that stuff.
Contract doesn't say you have to.

I can't even count.... how many times I've posted this.

It's not a condition of continued employment.

That was decided in 2007 at the National Grievance panel.

And the company agreed.

Is it a requirement for qualification ? The company can set that benchmark.

Who knows, they could change it again tomorrow.

It will never be a contractual requirement.

That would be like recognizing SPOHR and production standards.

Not gonna happen.

Got my 5 memorized in 2 days.

Will Start learning my 10 tomorrow. That doesn’t need to be word for right? Just main points?
Wut the hell is "my 10"?

I learn them both using all sorts of ways. Writing them, speaking them, using flashcards and well as voice recording the answers. I can tell you that the one that helps me the most was just hearing it and repeating it out loud constantly.

Two days. But I was Unemployed and desperate to get back to work. I found writing it out over and over helps.

You don't need to know the ten point commentary word for word. So you can use cheat ideas. I can't remember how I did it anymore nor can I remember it now but 8 is eyes iirc, seven is look over your shoulder, I dunno.

It's crunch time right now. You get it down tight, get through your packet, and then? Well then you get to be a cover driver where you go out cold on routes routinely and don't have the general knowledge of where your delivery point actually is.

Safety is number one. Service is number two. Production is number three. Slow is smooth and smooth is fast.

The last guy I went out to help out, who was in his second month as a true cover driver and got through his packet? I had gone out to help him almost every day for the past two weeks. I did my best to show him what he was doing wrong. Which was that his car was a :censored2: mess. If your car is a mess take five or ten minutes, that's really the maximum time it takes, on the side of the road and organize your car and move all your stops forward. As you pull off new stops just go take two extra steps and push that stack to the front of your car.

Anyway the day that last guy gave up when I went out to help him in a very busy city he had pulled in nose first into a packed parking lot, stopped, and was going to have to back last out of the parking lot and onto a very busy street blind. And his car was a total wreck with packages everywhere in the wrong places.

He was worried they were going to fire him.

They would not have fired him but he did need to start learning and grow a thicker skin. I'm one of the nicest guys who will come out and help you. Other guys are going to literally scream at you for what a fkin maroon you are because they want to go home to their families or to their bottle of whiskey. But listen because they will still point out to you what you are doing wrong.

Anyway good on you bro get that stuff down. Get through your class and get through your packet. I suggest you find a good routine you can do to let the stress go when the packages start to beat you. If you are on road and are freaking out it is MUCH BETTER to take only two minutes, that will feel like two hours, to stop, breath deeply, and recenter yourself.

It takes about two years of doing the job before you really know the job.

Got my 5 down.. I’ve got the concepts down for the 10 points however I can’t memorize any more smile*. I feel if I try to memorize it word for word I will fing forget the 5 rules. I was a pretty good traffic cop (and no that doesn’t mean I was ticket crazy, very fair and gave mostly warnings except those who deserved it) and know the rules of the road. I totally understand the 10 points but again I can’t memorize that sh1t word for word. So you’re saying that will be ok?

They want you to know the first line in bold word for word but the rest is just your explanation on what it means

Learn it a piece at a time. Don't try learning it all at once. Read them, write them down and recite them out loud to someone.
Thanks.. just feeling a bit overwhelmed by this. The 5 rules I’m all good, but the 10 points are so da gone wordy. The point could be expressed in half the words.

First time I did integrad in 2015 we didn't need to know my 10 word for word.

In 2018 when I went a 2nd time (local class) I had to know every single word of my 5s and 10s plus know yard control/8keys/backing/5 keys slips & falls all word for word. Had to get at least a 94.9% to pass.

My wife helped with my 10s I would just keep saying them over and over with her stopping me when I messed up. We did it everywhere.... at dinner, at the mall, waiting in line at the grocery store. In 2 days I had it down cold
