White Guilt - Getting Beyond Race

I’m so curious about this idea, that liberals are ‘keeping blacks down’.

Like anything else, maybe there’s a kernel of truth there, but would you care to elaborate?

I think you’re dead-wrong...it’s not as if Republicans have done so much to help ‘black America’...
Then again...

I think you’re underestimating the permanent and systemic repurcussions of institutionalized racism.

I love America, but we haven’t come to terms with our racist past, present, and future.
I'm not Black so I don't know and really not interested since I see it as 'Loser whining'.
But you said that, so clearly you have some thoughts on the subject.
Not really, I was quoting someone else (you) and used their wording.

As long as race relations are used as a way to get votes, on either side, we're never going to get past it. A young Black man meeting his white girlfriend's father will experience racism in many cases. There's been many times I've been waited on by a Black cashier who acted like she wanted to spit in my face even though I smiled and said hello, and still wished her a nice day. People have been conditioned to believe certain things, and their beliefs are reinforced by bad actors. The difference today is white liberals will tell you that racist father is despicable, but a white guy getting treated badly is basically told "well, what do you expect after 400 years of terrible treatment?" Society today is demanding better treatment of minorities, and rightfully so. But seems just being a white man makes you suspect unless you very quickly go on record how much you love everything and everyone except white people. One must atone for sins that one hasn't committed. Frankly it's been refreshing traveling in the developing world where I'm not seen through that prism. America has swung too far in one direction, and is immolating itself on political correctness.

A guy at my station firmly believes OJ was a victim to the greatest frame job in the world. I admire his conviction.

identity politics in general as practiced by the democrats.
Imagine being a baby boomer era citizen of Western European descent that voted center left your whole life. Whether it be a single issue or multiple. ( Pro Union, Pro choice, etc. Working class Catholic, etc.
Only to watch your party whole heartedly reap what it sows to have its apparatus hijacked by non citizens, far left elements, LGBTQ, & The Clinton Machine that did massive damage to the party. Mass unchecked immigration. Identity Politics is a dangerous thing when it's the only card you have to play.

Probably the Greatest American Alive
Shelby Steele has been discussing this for 30 years or more ...

White Guilt - How Blacks and Whites Together Destroyed the Promise of the Civil Rights Era
In 1955 the murderers of Emmett Till, a black Mississippi youth, were acquitted of their crime, undoubtedly because they were white. Forty years later, O. J. Simpson, whom many thought would be charged with murder by virtue of the DNA evidence against him, went free after his attorney portrayed him as a victim of racism. Clearly, a sea change had taken place in American culture, but how had it happened? In this important new work, distinguished race relations scholar Shelby Steele argues that the age of white supremacy has given way to an age of white guilt -- and neither has been good for African Americans.

As the civil rights victories of the 1960s dealt a blow to racial discrimination, American institutions started acknowledging their injustices, and white Americans -- who held the power in those institutions -- began to lose their moral authority. Since then, our governments and universities, eager to reclaim legitimacy and avoid charges of racism, have made a show of taking responsibility for the problems of black Americans. In doing so, Steele asserts, they have only further exploited blacks, viewing them always as victims, never as equals. This phenomenon, which he calls white guilt, is a way for whites to keep up appearances, to feel righteous, and to acquire an easy moral authority -- all without addressing the real underlying problems of African Americans. Steele argues that calls for diversity and programs of affirmative action serve only to stigmatize minorities, portraying them not as capable individuals but as people defined by their membership in a group for which exceptions must be made.

Through his articulate analysis and engrossing recollections of the last half-century of American race relations, Steele calls for a new culture of personal responsibility, a commitment to principles that can fill the moral void created by white guilt. White leaders must stop using minorities as a means to establish their moral authority -- and black leaders must stop indulging them. As White Guilt eloquently concludes, the alternative is a dangerous ethical relativism that extends beyond race relations into all parts of American life.

White guilt is a culturally and historically contingent emotion rooted in White
people’s recognition of unearned privileges and collective and/or individual roles in the
perpetuation of racism.

But Trump, the far right, and a dying generation of a majority white country will hand it all back.

BTW, “mass unchecked immigration”? Really? Facts be damned, you’ll stick to the president’s talking points.
