Why is this company so painfully dumb with dispatch and technology. Literally everything has made deliveries harder.

With what tech companies are capable of and what AI is doing these days, it's really shameful that we deal with what we do. Especially given that UPS fancies itself a logistics company and thinks it's up on tech.

When the goal is shaving off miles and we all see first hand everyday dispatch stupidity and Orion increasing miles.

I always say to myself if only Google was hired to implement our dispatch and routing software we'd actually have an efficient company.

I wonder what's on the horizon for Orion actually becoming real AI vs the rudimentary "AI" it is now. Really it's just an algorithmic software that can update on the fly but it has so many holes in its logic that humans on the ground recognize as being stupid decisions. Like delivering all the left hand stops on the road even though it has you coming back down later. It needs to think like a driver that's been doing the route for 20 years.

Yeah, I mean running a route long enough that you can picture every single house and its address in your head. Orion doesn't have anything on a driver that can visualize their whole route and the best way to run it just by skimming through your dispatch. Ultimately Orion is there for the cover guy running blind. The company makes a mistake forcing Orion compliance on guys that expertly know their routes.

Why worry about things that are above your pay grade? Do the job to the best of your ability, cash a check every Friday, and make it to retirement. There’s nothing UPS mgmt loves more than an invested, pissed off employee. They get tingly inside when they see a line of drivers at the computer in the morning looking at their day.
