Why the hate?

He pulled the rug out from under us after many of us gave the best years of our lives. Tell me where are we old guys going to go in this economy? That's right, if we're desperate we could be Ground drivers.
The point is that the "takeaways" didn't start last week, did they? American capitalism, alive and well. Seems like you are a fan except when it takes residence in your back yard.
If you 'hate' or don't respect someone because they work for a competitor, you're an a-hole. Everyone's just out there trying to make a living. Do I think most Ground drivers are foolish in choosing that job? Sure. But I don't know their circumstances and I'm not going to bust their balls over it. I wave to them the same I wave to UPS, HD, USPS and anyone else that may wave back.
I put up with a lot to get that traditional pension. I didn't do dances every day about capitalism. By the way, the CEO of Whole Foods has a new book out about capitalism that is identical to what I believe. Conscious Capitalism it's called, and it's about win-win-win for shareholders, employees, and customers. Adding value to our lives rather than taking away to benefit only shareholders. And if that means the shareholders get less and management settles for less then good. Which is why some companies like Whole Foods will do well with this philosophy but the greedy amongst us will never embrace it. Slavery officially ended in 1865. Stop trying to take us back to it, or something akin to it.

It's not capitalism, it's greed. It's step on anyone to accumulate the most wealth. And if that's what you aspire to then you are well on your way. That's not the way I want to live my life and teach my children. In my book you are no different than Fred S or the farmers who hire illegal immigrants to live like a king then try to justify it as American capitalism. Bullsheet

That pretend ceo probably worships the ground Freddy walks on.
He got bit for saying what he believes, that it's fascist when governments try to control all aspects of business instead of having free markets. He also believes there's not enough capitalism in the world, that we can solve a lot of the world's problems with capitalism if we embrace the form of it he espouses. Here's a question, why always try to twist things instead of having an open, honest discussion?
The original Whole Foods store in Austin got flooded years ago which caused them to declare bankruptcy. Hundreds of customers showed up without being asked to help them clean up. They liked the way they were treated by Whole Foods and wanted to help any way they could. If the local FedEx station got flooded how many of our customers would show up to help clean up? And said CEO makes it very clear what he thinks of corporations that are in it for the profit above all else.

Have said it before ad nauseum. There's nothing wrong with social programs, but in order for them to be successful you have to have a strong economy to pay for them. Shackling business with layer after layer of regulations and a high tax burden will make it difficult for businesses to profit and grow, thus reducing gov't revenue, thus making it more difficult to pay for an ever growing list of government entitlements. In other words you can't put the cart before the horse. I'm aware that many business owners would like to see Social Security go away because they don't want to pay the matching funds. But it's part of the social compact we have in this country. Just don't make it tough for them to meet the costs of programs like Social Security by continuing to put more burdens on them like Obamacare. Ocare hasn't fully started yet and it will be interesting to see the arguments for it after it is implemented in 2014. Many companies are already converting their workforce to part-timers to get around it's requirements for expensive healthcare insurance policies they can't afford.
I agree with you completely bbsam. I like the point of view of the other guys, benefits for everyone, nice working environments, etc, but I'm not shocked it's not there. The ceo of fedex sounds like a real 
, but he's no different than other managers and ceo's I've worked under. Stepping on the little guy to make more money is not a new concept. I do not get benefits, true. I know that if I want benefits and a good career I have to get off my ass and go get it. I think I am on a slow course towards that. If an idiot like me can get through school and (hopefully) have some job prospects at the end, anyone can.
I'm beginning to see the origins of all this hatred, which is good because it answers my question. On the topic of ground guys being unprofessional, I think I can agree and disagree. Personally, I work with a few real hacks and I've seen some things that are unprofessional. The ground guys I work with on the 2 neighboring routes are solid. I'd take them over anybody. I remember over christmas my truck broke down and one night we were out until 2am with flashlights, and up at 6 am the next morning. I did come off the streets, and I may not have spent 15 years as a package handler before becoming a driver, but I consider myself a professional driver. I was in the military and drove all kinds of vehicles in adverse conditions. I don't idle my vehicle, I always try to keep a spot open for people when I park, I maintain my vehicle on my own time, etc. On the flip side, I do work with a few slobs. They have no concept of driving, the cabs of their trucks are piled with wrappers, trash, and they never wash their vehicle.

point one: JFK made that comment long after SS was the law of the land.
point two: contrary to what some would say, the banking industry is a perfect example of unfettered capitalism. Oh, they talk about over regulation, but they wrote the regs and know every loophole.
