Okay here's a dumb question -
Who's responsible for creating the 9.5 list? During COVID our steward made some deal that none of us would sign up for the 9.5 list...a year later, he retires and our senior driver took over as steward (no election) and is not very proactive to say the least.
Since then we've never seen a 9.5 list. Guys have asked me many times, so I've approached Stew about it, but he loves his OT so no interest there and nothing comes of it.
He's retiring in May and I want to get a list going. What needs to happen?

Your steward should be circulating the list now. That is his job if he doesn’t want to do his job you need to make contact with your union Hall and business agent

Technically, the fifth but we do not start filing until the 15th. And after you can get on off the list whenever you want, but if you get on the list, you cannot file until the following week.
If you’re steward doesn’t want to be a steward maybe it’s time for you to step up and put a boot in his ass and send him down the road. Can’t stand people who take that position for personal gain only.

We have had candid conversations about this, with me knowingly treading lightly as he is set to retire in May. We did talk of him resigning January 15th so we can have a proper election.
I will bring this up again next week, as I do believe guys are growing tired of the lack of representation.
Also, selfish side note - most guys in our building come to me for issues and guidance already. I think I've helped create this monster because Stew knows I'll do 90 percent of his job. I just want what's right and fair for our brothers n sisters. If someone is getting boned, they deserve the proper guidance, elected Steward or not.

Well, if it’s an election, you should run. If your stewards are appointed you should call your Hall and tell them you’re interested.

Appreciate your efforts. It’s a busy job. I’m not serving as the steward but I help out with guidance to the correct articles and keep contact with the BA. Offer to help out if you able. Most of the ones are very busy just trying to keep up and are doing what they can.
Unfortunately many are takers but not wanting to help out with the difficult task. Stay strong and keep up the fight.

“The Union shall circulate and collect the names of eligible pack- age drivers who wish to be covered by the provisions of this Sec- tion once each year. This list shall be provided to the Company by January 5th of each year.”
I suppose it doesn’t have to be the steward could be the business agent. Especially in smaller locals if the business agent could possibly find the time to do that but here we have way too many locations way too spread apart.
Here we have stewards handle this. Also, in the past, we had a problem with management, having too much control over this list and trying to manipulate and intimidate people when they want to sign it.

Steward is a voluntary and mostly thankless job. Taking on those responsibilities does set people apart. I would think most Stewards would want to take that responsibility and get that list finished but then again, I’m a control freak
