Without Amazon, we are toast

wide load

Starting wage is a waste of time.
Honestly now....Amazon has ordered 20,000 new vehicles.

This peak was surprising light.....I asked veterans and they said they've never seen it this light....ever.

Did some digging and I found out that back in 2013, UPS has a "Christmas Delivery Fiasco" and could not deliver many packages on time for many weeks after Christmas. This led Amazon to begin to build it's own delivery service.

So, the question is: How important is Amazon to UPS? Can UPS survive without Amazon?
Do you know how much volume we got from Amazon prior to their delivery service?
I already know the answer and it’s a lot less than you think. A fart in the wind. UPS out of business? No way!
A few layoffs? Possibly.

Ok, to set the record straight! Friday Dec 20th. when we went home our building was clean. Amazon continued taking orders promising delivery before Christmas, Friday night, Saturday and Sunday.

Amazon screwed everyone by promising delivery before X-mas. Amazon blamed UPS. UPS took it on the chin, did not bad mouth Amazon in the media.

UPS declared the fix to preventing this from happening again was to make the day after Thanksgiving a regular day, not just an air delivery day!

True story!

That fiasco was mostly the fault of Amazon. They bit off more than they could chew and blamed us. Horrible weather compounded the issue. ALL carriers failed. The following year we added capacity, seasonals, and drivers and cruised through peak (like this year) while FedEx floundered AGAIN. Amazon will ruin Xmas if they ever try to deliver more than a small fraction. They'll always need help
I beg to differ with you on one point here. Yes, FedEx failed that year along with UPS, even though UPS got the brunt of the bad publicity. However, the following year, FedEx reinstituted the use of driver helpers for the first time in many years and cruised through that Peak as well.

We picked up fdx stranded volume in 2014 and strapped ourselves with their problems.

The amount of Amazon volume we subcontracted to the PO this year was massive and thanks to our negotiators the next peak will be even worse.

The OP is blowing off about issues that he/she has either limited knowledge of or is just stirring the pot.

That's not what I was seeing on the news and in my area. FedEx had two crappy years in a row.

We get all of the big heavy crap. I just delivered a dishwasher from Amazon. Do you ever see one of their drivers using a dolly?

This is why I been going to the casino every weekend with my grandmother playing the penny slots . If I just hit it big one time I can invest it all and be fine.

Went to our local casino last night, playing penny slots cuz im cheap. Was down to my last spin on a 20 dollar bill and won 6300 pennies. Im well on my way now also.

Ups was here before amazon and will be here after amazon.

I wouldn't be too sure about that either.
I've seen employees get too comfortable with their job. Some no longer work here.

I'm seeing the company getting too comfortable with ORION even though it clearly doesn't work...and could possibly be the beginning of the end.
