UPS driver dies after assault; co-worker taken into custody – AP News

A UPS employee sought in a deadly assault on a co-worker was taken into custody Wednesday, Connecticut state police said.

The suspect, Elijah David Bertrand, 19, had been the target of search since Tuesday night when a fellow UPS worker, Nathan Burk, was found suffering from injuries.

The two men apparently were riding in the same vehicle before the assault, Connecticut State Police Trooper Joseu Dorelus said at a news conference. The motive was unknown. A weapon was recovered at the scene, Dorelus said.

Bertrand was located and taken into state police custody, the agency said on Twitter. It was not immediately clear if he had an attorney.

UPS to reinstate pre-holiday peak surcharges mid-January – Supply Chain Dive

As UPS and FedEx are in the middle of a massive vaccine distribution operation, the carriers are getting affairs in order for their core business come the new year.

This time, UPS’ surcharges are based on flat volume, rather than relative volume surge as they were in May, meaning it’s possible more shippers may be subject to surcharges come January. And shippers should view “until further notice” to mean “forever,” at least for planning purposes, according to Matt Hertz, co-founder of e-commerce consultancy Second Marathon.

FedEx made a similar announcement last week, extending surcharges beyond January, but the surcharges and the services they cover are slightly different.

I’m a UPS driver delivering the Pfizer vaccine to hospitals in Arizona. It’s a privilege for me to be a part of it. – Business Insider

As a UPS driver, our peak busy season usually runs from the end of the year through mid-February as many customers make online returns or shop with gift cards they received during the holidays.

Early this year, we’d begun to slow down for about a week before the pandemic began to pick up in the US. We immediately got busy again and have stayed busy ever since. It was almost like peak season never ended.

There’s a kind of pride that comes with being called an essential worker and knowing we’re bringing people the things they need, that they can’t live without.
