Your post makes some astute realizations.... except for one.

Can you clarify that ?

Just curious, about what you mean.

I don't want to jump to conclusions.

Thanks.

Bug,
You have been around the block, so I am sure you have seen it before.
That said, I have no personal knowledge of this particular case so my comment was not referring to this case, but to possible reasons (in general) for excessive discipline.

I was told by sup that the best employees were the ones that had lost their jobs and then got them back. It would be stupid to fire this man for this small offense.

If this were true then they would fire everyone.

Some people have a thing in their head known as a "memory" and they will remember being fired no matter how just or unjust.

One more thing....the Union B. A. said that it wasn't actually necessary to go to the hearing and that he could speak on his behalf there. Would it be in his best interest to actually go himself to show how much he wants it back?
Tell him to go to the hearing look respectable and be very humble. Showing up to the hearing is a must where I'm from.

Another two drivers were fired a week after my husband and it ended up being a trade--bring two of them back and keep one fired permanently.

Sometimes life gives the test first and the lesson later.

This lesson could have cost much more than it did.

Other than to suggest your husband "CYA" from this point forward, I won't enumerate what else he needs to do to finish his career.

I glad it worked out.

This, in and of itself, should tell you they are ruthless.
Don't give them any ammo to use against you.
Do everything precisely by the book no matter how long it takes.

Don't do them any favors.
CYA.

Panel is tomorrow and we got a call today on the way down saying he got his job back with time served suspension.

That's a common outcome, for this type of situation.

The company wanted to get his attention to "correct" his behavior.

Lesson learned.

I hope he is aware, he has 9 months to keep his nose clean.

Also, even though it might have caused a brief financial hardship....

He shouldn't try to "make up" lost earnings. It will come over time. Trust me.

Came from the local union steward so....who really knows who to believe.

Take that information with a grain of salt.

A good Steward;

Would never even "allude" that, to a discharged member.

Unless, there is some sort of political tension....

Between the steward and the BA.

Sounds like a smoke screen.

Time to move on. Your hubby is back to work. That's what matters.
