Study: US is an oligarchy, not a democracy

"...Americans do enjoy many features central to democratic governance, such as regular elections, freedom of speech and association and a widespread (if still contested) franchise. But we believe that if policymaking is dominated by powerful business organisations and a small number of affluent Americans, then America's claims to being a democratic society are seriously threatened..."

Interesting read on the same subject. Seems to me that those trapped by either of the 2 political paradigms on which political and social control rest are doing nothing but further entrenching the very thing that makes our lives worse. It will and does not change anything except to further smash the boot of State upon our faces. Regardless which side of the narrative wins the day!

Income equality is coming home to roost:

The American middle class is no longer the world's richest...

"The American middle class, long the most affluent in the world, has lost that distinction.

While the wealthiest Americans are outpacing many of their global peers, a New York Times analysis shows that across the lower- and middle-income tiers, citizens of other advanced countries have received considerably larger raises over the last three decades.

After-tax middle-class incomes in Canada — substantially behind in 2000 — now appear to be higher than in the United States. The poor in much of Europe earn more than poor Americans.

The numbers, based on surveys conducted over the past 35 years, offer some of the most detailed publicly available comparisons for different income groups in different countries over time. They suggest that most American families are paying a steep price for high and rising income inequality..."

Well, there's that.

Well, there's that.

When I heard this story the other day, I laughed thinking of how much fun Klein could have with that if he still were around. Been fun to watch no doubt! :wink2:

1 percent field trip? Obama meets with 100 heirs at White House
One-hundred young philanthropists recently descended on the White House for a chat with Obama administration officials about collaborating with the government when writing checks to charity in the future.
Many on the guest list reportedly are poised to inherit billions of dollars ... someday.
The meetings were held privately in the Eisenhower Executive Office Building .

Inordinately Right
"God seems to have made woman peculiarly suited to guide and develop the infant mind, and it seems...very poor policy to pay a man 20 or 22 dollars a month, for teaching children the ABCs, when a female could do the work more successfully at one third of the price." -- Littleton School Committee, Littleton, Massachusetts, 1849

with economic inequality comes political inequality.

shows how much inequality americans would like, how much inequality they think there actually is, and how unequal america really is.

spolier: the top 1% goes way off the chart. and if u think u know, then i dont think you know.

ceo earns 380x average workers pay.

top 1% earn 50% of all stocks, bonds and mutual funds. the bottom 50% of american only earn 0.5% of the above.
