Towing the truck to the battery makes about as much sense as hauling the drop box back to the center to empty it. Could they have done anything else to slow down the repair?
When I had dead battery in the morning, My mechanic use another pkg car to push the dead pkg car to the shop, so he could use his air tools to replace the battery. It was probably quicker than him using a hand wrench.

Last time I had battery die on road they brought out portable charger and jumped me. Left it with me rest of day, wrote up on DVIR and they replaced battery that night.
Had it happen before and been told to solicit a jump start from the public.
I guess we have not received the no jump-start memo.
