And again, we need to toss out the 9.5 grievance proceedure and institute a stairsteped overtime wage scale. 8-9.5, time and a half. 9.5 to 10.5, double time. 10.5 and up, tripple. Not only will this hit the company first hour, first day of overloading, but inlike the current system, it won't go away at Christmas.
Additionally, I'd walk a strikeline in a minute to obtain language that forbids UPS from charging, or disciplining any driver in any way for ANY accident that would legally be deemed the fault of some other motorist, dog owner, etc by public traffic laws.
While we are at it, how about it shall ALWAYS be the discretion of the driver to decide whether or not they wish to deliver a misload. Close ones I don't mind. Being sent across town into some area I don't know, in the snow, in the dark, floundering around trying to find a house number is too likely to cause an accident.
And how about forcing the company to provide preloaders with some kind of technology that helps prevent misloads in the first place. Us drivers handle a third the packages, in twice the time, and are given gps and other diad software programs to stop misdeliveries. Can't they at least give preloaders a color-coded spa label?
Also, for those still employed, I'd like to see all pre-08 contributory years moved permanently into the new UPS/IBT fund, even after age 65. Think how much money this would free up on the old multi-employer funds, making them more solvent for those already retired.
Walk a strikeline to get a raise? Or to bankrupt my pension fund like we did in '97. No way. Forget it. If the union want's my respect, start working for us, and stop just using us.
