Doesn’t sound correct to me. I’ve had to issue 1099s for any type of contractor work over $600 for several years. I’m sure uber has been issuing 1099s for all their workers below $20k too.
Yes, I have had to issue 1099s for over $600 for years as well.

I believe this is different...

Late Hit: Provision Affecting Millions Of Gig Economy Workers Added To COVID-Relief Bill

The measure, the final version of which is expected to pass this week, would not increase the tax rate for such workers, and experts describe it as a sensible move to simplify rules. However, they also acknowledge tighter accounting of revenue from third-party, app-based vendors, such as Uber, Airbnb and DoorDash, could force some to pay more taxes by having to document additional income.

The measure drops the reporting threshold from $20,000 and at least 200 transactions to $600 for those earning extra cash on the side, as well as the companies that pay them.

Currently, those making less than $20,000 by occasionally renting out property or delivery driving have to pay taxes on that income but do not have to detail the source or associated business expenses. The tech-based companies connecting such earners to customers do not have to supply a 1099-K tax form to help them calculate reportable income.

It will be fine

Sounds like a closing of a loophole that was making it easy to avoid paying taxes. These workers should get 1099s and they should pay tax on the income. That’s good policy to me.

Yes, tax the poor and right during a difficult time. Wouldn't it have been better for the rich to lose a tax deduction? Better yet, this is to help alleviate a Pork laden bill where only a portion of it goes to COVID relief. smh

It’s not a new tax. It’s cleaning up tax avoidance. This is basic run of the mill income tax. Of course you know this but you’d rather fight a strawman than acknowledge how much Biden is cleaning up the mess republicans left.

B.S., Newt Gingrich and his Republican controlled Congress balanced the budget. And Democrats worked feverishly to try to oust him. Show me a Republican president who tried to be responsible and I'll show you a Democratic Congress who refused to work with him unless he gave them the spending they wanted. That goes all the way back to Reagan if not beyond.
Go back and look at Gingrich's behavior while in office. Another one who couldn't keep his hands off of young women as well as being another "do as I say, not as I do" Christian . Like Trump Gingrich's behavior ran himself out of office. But, I'm sure that today he's "growing in Christ" as a southern bible thumper once used to describe Trump.

Gingrich has become a Catholic. And apparently no room in your heart for forgiveness. I don't recall him chasing young women. He did take up with another woman while his wife was dying of cancer. I believe his biggest scandal was an improperly done book deal. Don't recall the details.

They were given this $20k exemption to assist people in serious need and get them on their feet.

Same difference, but you already knew that and just like to argue on behalf of leftist ideology. Not fighting any SM... the people trying to make a living in this instance will have to pay more while this POS PORK BILL rescues many who don't need the money, including special interests. This bill mostly has nothing to do with pure COVID relief. It bails out those ignorant politicians on both side for making stupid decisions by shutting the economy for way too long. But you already knew that too.

Biden isn't cleaning up anything, he's been around 100 years and done zero, why start now he won't even remember.

I heard of a report that says most states are flush with cash.
And giving them more money will only make them develop more programs to spend this money on.
The downside is when the money is gone, but they'll want to continue these "new" programs , they'll expect Washington to supply more funds. Thus repeating a failed policy of bailouts.
What could possibly go wrong ?

It's amusing how you and your fellow "Christians" always have so called "forgiveness'/ get out of jail free cards" for Republican politicians but none for a Democrat guilty of similar behavior. (lol).

Oh BTW your states senator John Cornyn (R-Tex) was out today bashing California and other so called "blue states" regarding the money they're going to get from the stimulus bill accusing them of having mismanaged their own finances and the way they handled the pandemic.

Yes, California will get the most money at 43.3 Billion. Guess who comes in second? Why it's none other than.....wait for it...TEXAS 27.8 Billion.... I bet that's a part of the story Fox News won't tell you.

Republicans controlled both houses. Controlling debt was not a priority for that congress. Your rambling about making a deal doesn’t change the fact that when in control republicans didn’t control debt.

Trying to make an argument that a) one side or the other cares more about controlling debt or b) its ok to spend like a drunken sailor because the other side did it too is also a straw man argument.

We're more than happy to forgive those seeking redemption no matter the party. But take Bill Clinton for example. Took Jeffrey Epstein's private jet to Epstein's little island numerous times. If you won't change your behavior or ask for forgiveness then it's all pretty meaningless don't you think?

I'd have to see what the money is earmarked for because as you know only a small percentage was actually for Covid relief.
