I can't give you an honest answer on that.So No on just showing up? It's about 20 minutes from me and not a large city.
They usually don't want to pay helpers from the start time leaving the building.

Hmm interesting info. I guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens. I was wondering if they either just dont need help or if they are somewhat disorganized. I've been instructed to use TextReach to contact the coordinator and that all assignments would come through TextReach, too. So I've hesitated to try to reach anyone by actual phone. They said to text them at 7am tomorrow so I'll see what happens!Lots of helper drama at my building. When they need you, you have to answer and drop everything you are doing. If they don't need you, you still have to be on call for the entire day. One dependable guy missed a call and called back within 2 minutes, and they gave his helper route to someone else.
Many call while we are still on our air Shift. They expect us to clock out early or something?
I think we're down to maybe 4-5 helpers who get anywhere from 3 to 8 hours a day, on top of the 4-5 in the hub. Most drive considerably out of their way at odd hours. We had 15-20 sign up initially.
I'd do it if they could get me with a guy in my neighborhood. But they loved dispatching me half way across the city for a undetermined time frame. Sometimes it was 2 hours. Sometimes 7-8.
9 years later, it still hasn't changed for the better. They're still disorganized.
Good luck. You may get a call. Be ready lol.
My first peak, I was used for two days. I was on call for 5 weeks. Nice $100 check that year lol.
Get in good with a driver and try to only have contact with him. Dispatch is a joke.
77, not 67.
This must be an imposter posting under his name.I imagine that's a very short list.
I owe you a huge apology if you are able to prove your claim.
Yeah im getting ed over cause im on reload.my steward is a joke toSo I guess it's a definite no to using any of the preloaders as helpers as well?

Why do you dislike helpers so much? Do most drivers hate having a helper?I’ve successfully refused using helpers everyday since they’ve hired them here. Hope the streak continues for the next month.

They aren't always necessary but UPS shoves them down our throats anyway. I prefer working alone most days. If I had a decent load and didn't have to spend so much time digging (especially with ORION) I'd probably not mind getting one. But on average I waste more time picking them up/returning them than I save by having them on the truck.
I see. Well I do not have a baby mama and I don't plan on looking at my phone all day. Will not bitch about exes either. And I still didn't receive a text to come in today. Maybe later or tomorrow...Any advice for how to be a useful helper, if I ever actually work?nope
mostly because they have no training and can’t keep up,or they whine and complain about ex boyfriends girlfriend’s
Constantly looking at phone
Wanting to know when we’ll be done or I got to go pick my baby mama at 4:00
I could go on
Not all of us enjoy standing cheek to cheek with another dude in a cubed out truck Dave. Keep your creepy/rapee advice to yourself. Here's a thought------work together as a TEAM.
If given a choice, pick a foreign person. I’ve found they work harder and don’t bitch, complain or whine. They aren't always necessary but UPS shoves them down our throats anyway.
