In two weeks I'm visiting Austin for one of my two FedEx paid vacation weeks. Nearly paid, anyway, since they pay four hours/day and I work 5 1/2. Anyhow...

Can anyone recommend some cool or interesting places to go or things to do? Bbq and music, of course. Anything under the radar known mainly to natives?

I, and many others, get a raise when we go on vaca, thanks to 35 hour weeks. I'm sure Fred will figure this out and pay 35 hours for vaca at some point.

The Salt Lick in nearby Driftwood has killer BBQ.

One of the food channels is in love with Austin. I bought a pop-over pan just to recreate the gruyere pop-overs I saw.

I would stand in line to try some of Aaron Franklin's brisket.

Definitely, The Salt Lick, best ever! Plus you can bring your own liquor if you like.

Yeah, you'll see people with wheeled coolers by their table (that was us).

I'm sure it's the best, but I'm not standing in line at sunrise for an 11 am lunch.
