Steve:

Well, I guess if you manage to get a 66% off cabin (last minute deal), and everyone that goes pitches in $20 for you.
You still might be going..:)

But, to some on here, that might be to "socialized" and not a good thing to do.

I however, think you may have some pals, that would be willing to get you onboard. (in that case) .

All the best to you !

It's not Socialist when individuals make the decision to do it.
Its Socialism when the government extorts money from an individual against their will and then "redistribute" it to others.

I backed out of the free cabin because people started complaining that I was getting it, even people who weren't going.
I haven't been keeping up on this thread and completely missed this... Why does anyone care if you get a free cabin for organizing the trip? I was really glad that you took the initiative to put the trip together, you deserve the cabin.

If our group is still eligible for the free cabin then you should take it, no question.

Steve, the cabin is yours for the taking. You earned it! Life is too short and you may never get this opportunity again. Don't go thinking that you can do it tomorrow. You can't take tomorrow for granted.

Carnival's price as well as other travel websites that I looked at for a balcony guarantee BL, which would be catagories 8A-8F are...

$709 + taxes&fees of $77.51= $786.51 this is per person

Amy's price is $845.68 inclusive of taxes and fees but also includes a $50.00 onboard credit and a bottle of wine per room booked.

So we have $ 845.68 -$25.00 Per person credit per room is, $820.68...

Which would be a difference of $34.17 per person and that does not include the wine...

Tony,
Thanks for breaking it down for me. As for Stug I'm sorry but, this thread is soooo long I didn't read the middle pages. I'm in NO way pointing a finger at you at all. All I was doing was asking a question. Please forgive if I came off sounding negative.

There's no doubt that you took the ball and ran with it, you've done a great job in organizing and creating enthusiasm for this cruise. I hope that you will find a way to be able to join us.

Prices for cruises change all the time in fact if someone wanted to take a chance and go outside the group and wait till a week or two before the cruise they might just score a deal...That is if they can get a cabin, that's the risk/reward possibility that you take...Bottom line Cruise ships want to leave at capacity...

Correct me if I'm wrong or misinformed as I've not read all of the 900+ posts in this thread but I thought that because you organizied this that you earned a free cabin. Since that has changed and no one is being compensated for the group I guess I will call Amy to see if the rest of us can get more of a discount.

Cheryl our daughter and I are still going and we hope that everyone else can still make it..

Ms Spoken, you are on the stugged list...is the list incorrect?

I guess move me to sitting on the fence because you never know when I will change my mind. I'm one of those that will book a flight the night before. Heaven forbid I plan anything out.

Maybe we need to update the list...

How about the people still sitting on the fence or others??

MIGHT BE GOING!

Steve, you do not have to offer any excuses as to why you cannot go. We appreciate all of the work that you put in setting this up. I am not going--my cruise is sitting in my basement in the form of a new washer and dryer--but it does sound like it will be fun. Maybe you can come down to the port and meet everyone who is going.

I really wish I could go, but I gotta pay for a wedding in Feb. and just cant do it this year. Hopefully, things will go great and maybe this can be done next year as well. I am in for the 2nd annual UPS cruise, if so.

Steve, as far as I can remember the only people questioning you taking the (so called) free cabin were people that were not going anyway. I just took them as trouble makers anyway. IMHO, you should take the cabin, although I am aware that the cabin and all that goes with it are not all the expenses involved and can sure identify with economic situations. If you taking the cabin will allow you and your wife to come...TAKE THE CABIN already.

Just wanted to add, anyone NOT going on this cruise that doesn't like the idea of Steve taking the cabin....mind ya own business.

That's what I remember too. Wasn't it someone we never even heard of before? Or since???

If I remember correct, to receive the free cabin, we needed to have 8 cabins booked and the free cabin would be #9 . It was pretty much a consensus of those seriously considering going at first for Steve to take cabin #9 for his efforts. There were some people questioning the fairness of that, but as pointed out the ones doing the questioning were not even considering the cruise anyway. As Over mentioned at least one was a newbie that hasn't been heard from since. At that time Steve decided not to take #9 to keep the detractors pacified and paid the deposit to book his cabin.

At this time we have 7 booked, including Steve. So, unless I am wrong, there is no "Free" cabin.

Steve I am so sorry that you don't feel that you can go. I was really looking forward to meeting you and your wife. Rest assured that we will be talking about you.

It doesn't make a tinkers damm, I am going. All paid up, except for the shore excursions. Lots of give and take with the wifey on that one. And if I talk shop, somebody please throw my fat ass overboard. Other then my UPS bush hat(so everyone can find me), I don't want to here, talk, or see anything remotely UPS.

My DW and I are going if we are the only passengers on the boat. Nothing finalized on shore excursions yet, but there are a few that I would like to do if I can get to where I can walk long distances by cruise time.

I talked with Amy today to see if they could match rates published on on an email I received from Carnival Cruise lines. It so happens the rate is for repeat customers as we've cruised with them before and not for the general public. It is the same rate I mentioned earlier in this thread and should save us a few bucks if she is able to do it..

This was Amy's response....

Tony,

Wanted to let you know I talked to the group department and told them what was going on with the email they had sent one of my clients in my group and now they need to honor that. I’m now working with a supervisor in groups and she going to see what they can do regarding the rate and I also said we want to keep our original cabin numbers. I don’t know if they are going to get back to me today but I’m sure by tomorrow morning. I pretty much told them they started this and now they have to finish it where everyone is HAPPY! So we will see and I will let you know as soon as I do.

Thanks for the heads up,
Amy

Go get'em Amy!:happy2:
