considering wanting to work for UPS as a career

Don't work here if you have other options. You are better off becoming an officer in the military. Management is a terrible career choice at UPS, and as a driver you will always have a target on your back to produce more. Exhaust all other options.

im 25 and graduating college and hated it and i want to get into the union and i have some questions.
1) how is the part time job and what would my hours be every week?
2) how long will it take me to get from part time to full time?
3) how much will you make as a full timer? i have gotten many answers but does it ranges from 60-80k? and is there a lot of OT?
4) how are the benefits and pension plan?
5) will ups ever dissapear? should i go for it?
6) i currently live in ny and want to transfer to CO can I do that?

What did your dad do?
Chances are if you follow in his footsteps you'll be just fine.

You have a degree use it. I only encourage people that don't have a degree to give UPS a shot. You will hate working Saturdays. You don't/can't get enough time off for all the things that happen on the weekend in your life such as weddings, weekend vacations with friends, sporting events with friends, kids athletics, and so on. There may be a time you'll be forced to work Sundays also.

You can't transfer. At least not that far from one area to another. Being married is hard work...being happily married is even harder... this job puts stress on a marriage... Use your degree.

I graduated college and hated it too. If you hated college, you'll hate working at a desk. I mean, I also hate this, but honestly this pays better. I agree with trying a union trade first. DON'T do HVAC.

When you retire in your mid 50’s your friends with degrees will be retiring in their mid-60’s.

I’m no company kiss ass. I just go to work, do my job at my pace and I stay off the radar.

There’s not a day that goes by where I clock out and go home to my family and think about what happened. Even if my truck was bulked out, the preloader sucked ass, they gave me way too many stops.

If you can’t handle the rigors of a physical job than maybe you might look elsewhere.

yes very true man my dad was a union worker at amtrak he did well but i think ill be making more than him at ups.

Do not get hired on full time in a location where you don’t intend to stay. Your seniority won’t transfer except between Western region states. You could get hired part time and then get an “education” transfer. But it’s pretty easy to get hired part time so you could just move to CO first.

I’m a few years older than you and never finished school. I have no regrets about coming to work here. But if you don’t like a little bit of chaos and a lot of manual labor I would think twice. There is no guarantee that it will still be a well-respected union gig in 30 years. But there are no guarantees for anything in life and it seemed to be my best bet. For now it’s still the best paying and biggest logistics company.

Work in the west. Pay is a bit higher. Pension is better. Opportunities to transfer. Retire earlier if you want.

I would go join the IBEW. The likelihood of those jobs being automated is pretty slim and you'll make more with a degree I believe
