Savers get penalized by "saving sloths".

Were you maxing out your IRA's to compensate? Deciding between adding to mine or just dropping it in Ameritrade

Maybe he can open a ROTH IRA in his wife's name and put the money there.

Nope, between UPS and my investments, my realized income last year was 128k. I made almost 12k less this year than last, just to ease up and try to avoid this crap. I'm the only one I know of that is having this problem.

Do you have a Roth IRA for your wife?

Maybe he can open a ROTH IRA in his wife's name and put the money there.

Thinking about what to do at this point. I have some good core funds that I might add to in a Roth IRA. I'd be right at the limit for 2017 if I dropped it in there.

You can have a Roth for the both of you outside of your 401k and not run into this problem again next year.

Completely unavoidable.

Unless I hit lower income limits or others contribute. New hires being auto placed into the 401k might help with this. Not sure if the limits are dollar based or employee % based.

yes ... around $6k per year at that time.
