3 days before the storm hit the National Hurricane Center predicted that Ian could bring a storm surge of 4 to 7 feet from Englewood to Bonita Beach, which includes all of coastal Lee County. And schools were open even though they had also been designated as emergency shelters. Brilliant!

The above quote is from the Washington Post article. Local governments have to make judgement calls based on information they are given. Imagine if they’d ordered an evacuation and the storm hit Tampa as predicted previously? Next time a hurricane was predicted people would say, They told us to evacuate for nothing last time. I’m staying this time.
DeSantis knows how to intelligently advocate for common sense things in a way that also appeals to moderates. That probably is pretty scary for the left. Especially if someone like Gavin Newsom might be the candidate on the other side in 2024.

Republicans are going to have a choice to make. DeSantis is a US Navy Reserve Lieutenant Commander who appears to be able to deliver on reasonable agenda items without making everyone deal with small hands baggage or love for authoritarian dictators.

He certainly hasn't been displaying a level of intelligence that's below that of any of the probable 2024 Democratic Presidential candidates. And I believe there are some Ivy League educations involved there too.
