Easy math for retro check estimation!

Have run across a number of veteran drivers in my center who keep asking how many supplements to settle until they get their "monster retro check." I always perk up and ask them exactly how big do they think their retro check is going to be. The answers I get are...amazing to say the least. They range from $2,000 to more then a few saying over $5K.

I try so hard to keep from laughing in their faces but I have to admit, I failed a few times!

Retro check for dummies..........

Assuming same hours year over year for top rate driver:

1.9% raise (round up to 2% for easy math) and as of Feb 1st, 6 months of retro pay owed: Take what you made last year and multiply by 1%.

eg. If you made $80,000 last year you can expect an $800 retro check thus far......give or take.

I have found that by "educating" my fellow drivers I can get them to STFU on the bitching about the outstanding supplements! I even talked one idiot out of going out and buying his shinny new penis-measuring new truck!

Assuming everyone is staying under 9.5 each week now plus the OT during peak, based on a 45 hour work week.
40 X .70 = $28 + (1.5x.70=1.05) =$5.25
1week $33.25 X 26 = $864.50 to date

I will agree there was a concerted effort during peak to keep the dispatches all under 9.5 it was peak and most of us in my building were at or slightly over 50 hours each week. Peak throws a monkey wrench in that easy math. I honestly think the 1% is closer to actual.

What about the 2nd and 3rd year drivers in progression who go from $21 to $24 and $25 to $28.75 per hour. Thats over $100 each week just off 40 hours not including OT since August.

That's why multiplying your raise by hours worked is better. Not everyone is getting the 70 cent raise.

I thought full time drivers who are out of their progression get bumped up the whole $4.15 raise as soon as the new contract goes into effect? That’s what our steward told me last week. So wouldn’t they be getting a back pay or retro check for $4.15 for every hour worked since August 1st 2018? I’m a PT sorter so it doesn’t really effect me, but I was just curious.

What? Ha ha ha! No. 70 cents the first year, then something like 80 cents the second year. The $4.15 is spread out through smaller annual raises. If people actually thought it was all upfront, no wonder the contract passed. I'd like to see the results of a survey on the subject.

I have kept track of all hours worked since August 1st. Being in progression, my retro check is already over $5k. Everyone’s situation is different and not everyone is at top pay.

In 705 my retro check should be big for the preload. $10.35 wage goes to $15 so a $4.65/hr difference, not including the overtime hours it should be a little over $2K after taxes.

It's this easy, 70% of the hours worked from Aug 1st to present. (Ex. if you worked 1000 hours since 8-1 then 1000 x .70 = $700, or whatever hours you worked x .70 = retro pay.)

No rush here. I hope they drag it out as long as possible.

I am getting $1hr retro for every hour and $1.50 for time and a half since August 2018 due to my progression. Going to be a nice check.

This is based on 10 to 20 hours OT. All numbers are averages. I’m in feeders so this is realistic.

You can make $40 to $50 a week the first year. .70 cents... $40 comes to $2080. $50 comes to $2600.

2nd year $80 to $100 a week based on the .70+.75 cent... $80 comes to $4160. $100 comes to $5200.

3rd year $123 to 157 a week based on the
.70+.75+.80 cents... $123 comes to $6396.
$157 comes to $8164.

4th year $173 to $220 a week based on the
.70+.75+.80+.90 cents... $173 comes to $8996. $220 comes to $11466

The final you $228 to 290 a week on the
.70+.75+.80+.90cents+$1... $228 comes
to $11856. $290 comes to $15106.

$2080+$4160+$6396+$8996+$11856=
$33,488 working 10 hours OT a week...

$2600+$5200+$8164+$11466+$15106=
$42,536.

These figures are not added to the vacation weeks. So if you can take a lot of vacation in a year then shave off few grand at the end. This also doesn’t add to the dubs and trips pay for the feeder world...Like I said $30,000 to $40,000 check! So they are not that far off.
