Forced Vacation

Rumor has it some employee & Manager had a misunderstanding about his or her vacation time. What they had accrued, etc. Now the District says anyone with unscheduled vacation time must take it, or we will schedule it for you. Yes, we are making you take vacation. My question is; has anyone ever heard of this? Is it an HR issue?
Hypothetical, why can't I just sell a week back, take a week off, and not care about losing another week off that I don't take because it doesn't roll over.

Why in the world would you intentionally want to lose a week? My old station for years would tell us around Peak that we had to schedule any vacation we had left or they would do it for us. No big deal.

That's exactly it, it's a carrot on the stick thing. Vacation is SO Great, why wouldn't you want to take it?! Well, I don't want to take it. So why are you pushing me? No I don't want to golf, rake leaves, fish, hunt, watch daytime television, clean my gutters, go to the Casino. Etc.

It’s a benefit that, if you don’t want it, FedEx will happily keep.

Swing drivers are hired in order for you to have PTO. Why should the company have to pay triple for the same time period? Once for your vacation buyback, once for the swing who was supposed to fill in for you, and once for you to work?

I’m guessing FedEx must’ve gotten sued somewhere along the line for not paying out vacation and this is the result. I’m taking every minute of any leave I get even if I stay home and watch paint dry. Lol.

So is this a larger scheme to find Swings more hours?

No it's a benefit that apparently you the 0.000001% don't want. I realize that for some taking a 40hr vacation check is a pay cut for those who are banking 50-60hrs... There is not really anything you can do about it. You can sell a week back when you hit a certain threshold 10yrs? 15? I can't remember... otherwise sit and enjoy your seagrams VO

2 weeks vacation required, can sell back anything over, IF YOUR STATION ALLOWS IT.
Sr. Mgr. can restrict buyback of vacation time.

There is a homeless guy that works at a local station and he is on vacation this week. Doesn't want to take vacation because its a huge pay cut to get paid for 20 hours when he normally works 35. But they force him to take his two weeks a year.

A good pour of Seagrams for the cooler days ahead. Yes, that's part of it as well. Actually losing money on vacation. 40hr vs. 40+ time 1/2.

This has been a company policy for three forevers. The alternative to not making you take it is to let it expire, which is a lawsuit waiting to happen.

So you're saying you cannot afford to have TWO 40 hour checks a year? Sad if true.

You've never met anyone like that? There's an OT pig in every station who works 55 hours a week, usually at or near top of scale, sells all but 2 weeks, and then complains about losing money those 2 weeks. You'd think they'd put aside enough the other 50 weeks of the year to make up for the 30 hours they're missing out on, but no.

The most messed up part? They expect sympathy from their coworkers.

I understand Fedex does not rollover or accrue vacation. Which is fine. But if you want a week off, not 3. ( For example. ) I can't see why it's such a big deal. As for the OT Pigs, I'm not one of them. But it's funny they cry whoa is me to anyone who will listen!

With 3-4 weeks of vacation I may visit the in laws in Florida, ski Tahoe, take a cruise to Punta Cana, or perhaps bunch two up & visit Europe. (Sarcasm)

I can’t even grasp the thought of not wanting to take my vacations.
