Getting fired (On topic)

r u in the union yet
I'll repeat what you should do.

It's better to know what to do, than worry about "Would he?" Your super has no hiring or firing capabilities. He can suggest, and hint to HR/FT to fire you, but in this case the union would have your back for being overworked. If they do fire you, they'd ask for your hard pass and escort you out. However, if you are telling the whole story, you are working "to the best of your ability." That's not a cause for termination, just a :censored2:ty super that doesn't know how to juggle his people around when he needs to.

If you do, talk to a shop steward or call your local office. But that is if you have your seniority and a member of your local union.
alright thanks and how would the hr/ft go about firing me is there like a process or can the hr/ft fire me outright?

Either you are joking or dumb as a rock , take your pick

I dont know if he is joking hence the stay on topic statement. Secondly maybe this person is a young one who is not sure of the process and is looking for an understanding. Not everyone who asks questions is a maroon.

If you are still within your first 90 days (or whatever your local rules stipulate), then yes, they can fire you for anything, anytime... or rather, "let you go" because you "weren't a good fit."

If you are already past that point, then generally speaking, no... they can't just fire you (aside from for a few "cardinal sins"... i.e. theft, etc... none are performance related). You would have a hard time getting fired for most anything performance related once you are past your "probation" and a member of the union. You would have to be intentionally trying to sabotage the preload, for any write ups, etc... to stick. That doesn't mean they won't try (depending on the level of scumbaggery your particular management team has achieved, and how good or bad your reps and local union are). You will likely be treated poorly by your sup, threatened, and harassed in an effort to get you to either quit, or do what they want you to do. You will probably also be scrutinized and disciplined for any missteps you may make. If they were to discipline you, however, they would still have to follow the steps laid out in the contract for progressive discipline.

Hoopah drives the boat Chief !!
I was wondering i have these two trailers i work in and they are really busy and at times i cant always keep them down and at times when they do i really don't try because of how hectic they can get. And i was wondering if i could get fired for that if i keep that up and if so what is the process for my supe to fire me and how will they let me know? Also if my supe can let me go how would I prevent that from happening before hand if hes in the process. and if I do end up being let go how would I end up getting my job back?

needing honest answers and for everyone to be on topic please thanks.
Put down the weed & pick up the pkgs!!!

The usual process is verbal warning, warning letter, suspension, fired. Have your union steward with present if the supervisor gives you trouble.

just curious but what all ways can I get fired and what is the process and how long does it take for everything to go through. Like for an instants since there are two new hires with a total of six loaders including myself two pickoffs one who shows up late constantly so there for management makes me pickoff since I am pickoff certified and I don’t load much so therefore I don’t get much scans could they use that against me to get me fired if they truly wanted to get rid of me? I’m just needing to know because management really has it in for me all the way put the hub manager because I’ve all but treated them like dirt but I’m truly am trying to make amends and do what’s right. Also management has gotten to where they grade load quality and I didn’t know if they could use that against me as well. Need help please and honest answers. One last thing I also know for a fact that there has been people who have spoken to the union steward about letting management letting me go and I need to know what to do. Help please.

How long have you been at ups? Despite what others tell you, you should always do the best you can and not treat others like dirt. That’s why this place is a terrible place to come to work. Be a part of the solution not the problem.

Well it’s just that I’ve had some things come up in my life that I didn’t know how badly it had affected me mentally and physically as well as emotionally that I acted out and I don’t know what to do. But by no means am I trying to excuse myself it’s just that I feel like am stuck between a rock in a hard place.

Pretty much attendance only and drug/alcohol related instances. We've had people flat out fight in our building. We've had workers tell bosses to suck it.

Bosses have had vendettas against workers who were slow and crappy workers. They made their life hell and they eventually did quit

Basically they had write ups ready for every miscue. Or they threw them in terrible sort/pick off spots and never rotated. One should be ready to fight with their own grievances, or just flat out quit.

90% of our firings are because of attendance. Not because a worker was a :censored2:bag.
