Good Grief

I don't have to walk in you shoes to know the situation with Express. I am surrounded by many people that work for Express including my step son, who is a handler. All of my business partners are Express. So I do know just a little bit about Express. And I am not judging, or it was not my intention. You are being hateful, that is the truth. Times change, companies change with the times....all companies....not just FedEx. If your that unhappy, file a GFT....use SFA. You have those tools for a reason. Complaining on a message board is not going to get you anywhere. But if it makes you feel better, than knock yourself out. This may be a good place for you to vent, but as far as your mission, it's not going to get you anywhere.

Then why do you care? And how is having a handler in the family qualify you as an expert on Express matters? Why are you here at this forum if you don't actually work at FedEx? Yes, times change. But how many companies do you know of that develop a parallel company that they use to undermine the original company's employees' future? Taking away extremely important benefits, slowing pay progression to a trickle, but expecting ever better productivity numbers? How many companies do you know of who get legislation enacted by Congress that makes it extremely difficult for their employees to unionize, while heading off other legislation that would make unionizing easier by throwing around millions? Name those companies that have done similar! GFT...GO FRACK THYSELF!! Complaining on a message board must be bothering someone because you folk keep showing up trying to shut it down. FedEx has forced me to work side by side with others doing the same job with no hope of ever making what they do. They've basically told me I don't deserve as much, and if I don't like it I can leave, knowing good and well they have me and others like me over an economic barrel. If this company had any decency they'd offer all hourly employees with 20+ years of total service a decent buyout option, and make that available to every hourly in the future that reaches 20 years. They've stolen the best years of our lives for their enrichment, if they had a shred of decency they'd do something good for those people who made it happen "on the frontline" so that they can have their wonderful lives. And defending any company on the basis that "all companies" are doing it is a grade school argument. As my preacher father used to say to me when I was little: "If they all ran and jumped in the fire would you run and jump in the fire too?"

I do work at FedEx....just not Express, even though that's where I started out. You tell me I am childish, but telling me to go friend myself is really mature. Hmmm.

Sorry, I'm telling you what a GFT means to an average employee in the results given by the company. GFT's are an opportunity for the company to circle the wagons and sweep any unpleasantness under the rug. Or, if they are truly in legal jeopardy, give them a heads up to defend themselves. I spent every penny I had to move to my previous location based on the lies my mgr told me. And once there filed a GFT over it only to have to listen to a director talk patronizingly to me while covering for the ops mgr. They dress things up for public consumption, but they are nothing but pirates, and these are the people you defend. Wake up.

Sounds like you got a rotten deal, not all directors are like that. I truly am sorry that so many of you are going through this, really I am. I have had nothing but positive experience with my career at FedEx, that's why I am defending the company. I have legit reasons to do so.

That's fine but the gist of most of your posts appears to be we have no legitimate beef and need to realize it. MFE tends to go over the top a bit, but he's been spot on in most of what he's posted in the past. And just so we're clear, my previous station experience was one of a long series of experiences with bad mgrs, a number of whom got fired. It wasn't a one off, luck of the draw event where I can be reassured that most aren't like that. I've known a few great mgrs and seniors, but many, many more that I'm glad I no longer have to deal with. If your experience has been positive great for you, but Express has devolved into screwing hourlies for the greater good of those who benefit from our efforts, and many of the mgrs that are put in charge of keeping us in line will try just about anything short of getting physical to keep their bosses happy with them. We deserve better, but aren't getting it.

Good Grief indeed Charlie Brown.
It's the same at ups.Every center is different.
They let each one run on it's own.Like a casino.
It's all about money.Rules and protocol are generally
adapted to local laws to accommodate production.
Let's just say they had an advertising campaign like
Mac vs PC...I'd think fedex is Mac .
Sorry about how you were treated,

Well, I am sorry if my posts sounded that way. You seem like reasonable person with valid concerns, not hateful like MFE. When I was lurking and reading a lot of hate toward "Memphis", it put me on the defensive. All the talk about Memphis and Memphoids (whatever that means) not doing anything except sitting in our cubes playing games, that's is the furthest from the truth. I work my @ss every day to make sure you guys have everything you need to get your job done. I am not in management and being lumped with what you all hate (Memphis) pissed me off, that's why I decided to register and post. I will try to tone it down some, but please stop hating on all Memphis employees just because some of us are salaried and Corporate is in Memphis. Like I said before, salaried is good when you work 40 hour weeks, not so much when 60+ weeks, which in my field we do pretty often.

I have been reading over this thread over the last couple of days and I must say that there are valid points to both perspectives. I work in vehicle maintenance so although I don't have to deal with ops mgrs on a regular basis I do see how certain managers treat their work groups vs other ops managers. I know there are a few that I wouldn't want to work for either. From a company standpoint, I have been treated well comparatively to the open market. Sure things are not the same as they were when I started 14 yrs ago but it is better than if I were working in an independent shop that offers no benefits at all. I see my manager maybe once a month. I come in and do my job and as long as there are no issues we are pretty much left alone. Other than daily email contact. Of course our dept is run a lot differently than ops.

I certainly cant speak for all but I think when most field employees are referring to Memphis, they are speaking about upper mgmt. My dealings with the support personnel have been 95% positive.

That's good to know. But reading through some of the posts, they are referring to salaried Memphis employees. Most of salaried Memphis employees are not management. Calling us lazy cubicle dwelling memphoids (still haven't figured out what that is), you can't expect me not to go on the defensive.
