The point I was making that you totally missed was that your impression of wild wild west is that people just went around shooting each other and that's not the case. You can't compare cities.....from the 1800's to cities today.

In Alberta, population (2010) 3, 700, 000 there are 224,887 gun licenses..........that's 1 for every 16 people. That seems like a lot to me.

And remember, 1 license doesn't necessarily mean just one gun !!!


In Ontario, population 13,069,200 there are 523,851 gun licenses..........that's one for every 25 people.....a much more civilized place!

In Alberta they almost issue free hunting tags to get rid of over population of some wildlife.

(I have never gone - but every other year, some wildlife population has grown too much - and they give us freebies).

I don't make the distiction ......a gun is a gun. You don't think Americans hunt? So if you have a gun to hunt it's OK and if I have a gun to hunt it's because I'm gonna shoot somebody with it and I'm evil. That's how you come across !!

I think per capita the chances of getting shot here are 1/10 less than in America.

(gross figure : 4 people get shot here out of 100.000, and in the US it's 40 or more per 100.000 population).

Most people who hunt know how to spell rifle !! It's lines like this...."Canadians are more decent people".......that makes you the chief hockey puck of Canada!!

PSST... ment, better look into what the founders really believed about guns. The original intent of guns wasnt to hold them at home. They were to be kept in the center of town, in a building, with the ammo separated by one floor. Gun powder was used back then.

The founders had no intentions of giving people automatic rifles and ammo that can penetrate armour.

Todays idea of guns is far removed from the founders original intent.

Todays gun freaks are men who never got over cowboys and indians as a kid. EGOmaniacs who live in fear, and wouldnt know how to defend themselves if given the opportunity. Gun owners are repeticiously sold the concept of fear, being afraid comes out in every explanantion ive seen on this thread.

"im gonna protect myself from intruders" "im gonna protect my family against carjackers" "im gonna protect myself from robbers"... blah blah blah,, no matter what the explanation, its all FEAR BASED.

The typical GUN owner doesnt describe the same America that I live in. I live in an America where I travel freely, live freely and dont have to keep my head on a swivel. Those that claim the have to sleep on a pistol to feel safe are the biggest babies of all.

If you cant even sleep in peace, how can you live in peace?

The FEAR basing of the GUN argument is for sissies, but it works as an effective tool to sell guns.

Its just too bad that those who live in fear and buy guns for "protection" only end up killing a family member or themselves.

I prefer not to live like a sissie.

That's what it's comming down to. No smoking in bars, public places and even parks !
Oh yeah, and no smoking in the car if you have children inside it.

Are you o/k when they rule hot dogs as junk food and ban any sales or consumption ??

If you let them --government will ban guns, prostitutes, pot, smokes, junk food, etc,etc,etc.

Government should be very limited in scope and purpose and adults should be FREE to make many of these basic decisions.

You have this vision in your head that people pick up their gun daily. Let's see, lived in San Clemente and I haven't touched it for 11 years now.....I know where it is and how to use it. Hubby has cleaned it once in awhile and fired it at a range. Some people and their ideas just crack me up. BOO!
