guns

I wonder how many of you would change your views on guns if your own mother were the victim of a senseless tragedy due to an unlocked loaded firearm.

A brother of mine used a rifle to end his life.

And, no, I don't believe he would have killed himself otherwise.
It takes guts to try to hang yourself, or use a razer blade, and it's not always successful either.
Add to that - would take a lot of more thought and time and suffering, which I know he wouldn't have been able to do.

That was just another xmas, that was "cancelled" :(

Sorry for both your losses but the gun itself did nothing more than fire a bullet like it was designed to do. Change the thread title to Cars and I say the vehicle did nothing more than move as it was designed to do. Tragic moments in your life has set in place decisions that you live by, fine. But we are not going to change our position. I believe those of us on BC who own firearms do so responsibly. You just as safe living next door to me as you would be living next door to a house without guns.

Dave, I can't imagine all the grief that you have gone through and for that grief you have suffered I am truly sorry. No one should have to go through that.

My mother died in childbirth when I was 8. I did not blame my mother for dying and causing the abuse that I suffered at my fathers hands. I never thought that the government should regulate childbirth. It was a tragedy. I lost my mother and to this day the only thing that I really remember of that was not being able to look in the coffin the day she was buried. I don't remember what she looks like. I don't remember her. I clearly remember everything that happened after that though. I clearly remember the abuse and to this day if he ever showed up on my doorstep I would ...................................... well, I just would.

The point is that I understand what you go through everyday. It's not the same means but it is the same end. Should I believe that the government should regulate childbirth? Or would it make more sense to educate? I believe that people should take responsibility for their actions.

Thank you Mac. Your story puts perspective into a volitile issue. It goes to the responsibility of gun owners and teaching.

Here is a story about an 11 year old girl who fended off 3 armed burglars with her mom's gun.

Stories like this are a JOKE. The only sources for these ridiculous stories are from GUN SITES. GUN promoters who MAKE UP these stories of valiant defense. Why isnt there ONE story from an accredited news source?

WK, why not post a legitimate news source for this story.

Its just like the story that floated around last year about the 10 year old girl who used a shotgun to defend her home from intruders. She was supposedly a trained shotgun competitor... too bad the story was exposed to be a fake, a plant by the GUN lobbyist to promote a ridiclous story of the wonder of guns.

This story is no different.

Peace.

Yeah, and then some of these same kids end up taking the gun to school, and start shooting.
How great it is to give kids access to guns !

Here's the story in the Lame Stream Media.

When three teenage burglars pried open the door of a northwest Albuquerque home they had no idea they would be met by a brave little girl, police said Wednesday.[/QUOTE]Thank you. TOS doesn't have to post legitimate sources but heaven forbid if someone else doesn't do it. OMG the world comes to an end. :hangin:

OVER,

lets look at the differences in the story from both sources.. Lets look at wks' account through his posting
1) But Alyssa didn’t let the fear, nor the danger faze her. While she says her heart was pounding, her mind was poised and decisive– the kind of confidence and poise that comes with knowing you have the means to defend yourself. When three armed burglars burst through the door from the outside, one of them brandishing a rifle, Alyssa immediately ran to her parent’s room to get her mother’s gun. Loaded and ready, Alyssa turned to confront the three armed men, who spooked and ran away.

Now, lets look at the story that you posted about the same event.

1) She said she slid to the floor from the couch when she saw the trio, but quickly decided that hiding wouldn't do her any good because the masked intruders had seen her.
"They had a rifle so I was thinking, 'What should I do? 'What if they shoot me?'" Gutierrez said.
That's when she made a beeline for her mother's room.
"I ran back into my mom's room and grabbed her little pink rifle, and there was two bullets in there," she said.
With the loaded rifle, Gutierrez said she checked the bathroom and then the living room ready to defend herself. She said she ran to her mother's closet and called 911.
But while Gutierrez protected her home, she had no idea the suspects had jumped the fence and that an off-duty APD officer driving passed her home had spotted them.
Police arrested the three teens and their alleged getaway driver, Abraham Bustillos, minutes after the break-in.
Gutierrez said she feels lucky because just a few days ago she had learned how to shoot a rifle.
"I felt proud of myself," Gutierrez said.

CLEARLY there are fundamental differences in the accounting of the stories. From WK's account, she faced down the intruders with her moms loaded rifle and they left, IN over's account, she hid, layed on the floor, ran to her mothers room, picked up "her" little pink rifle and walked back out into the living room only to realize the men jumped the fence and ran never being confronted by the little girl. She hid in a closet and called police.

As I said, the GUN FREAKS exaggerate the story to promote guns. What a joke.

Peace

What do you clowns think we do, just toss them in the cribs? My kids have been brought up around and taught the rules of firearms since they were old enough to understand. The exact same way they have been taught to be careful around sharp knives, hot objects, electrical outlets, anything mechanical. You raise your kids right and teach them the rules. About EVERYTHING! It`s called being responsible.
Some of us have more experience with kids than just handing out candy. Which, by the rules my kids were raised by, is something to avoid. You know, weird strangers bearing gifts.

Re: guns just make sure you kill the scum bag

Why I Carry a GunI don't carry a gun to kill people. I carry a gun to keep from being killed.I don't carry a gun to scare people. I carry a gun because sometimes this world can be a scary place.I don't carry a gun because I'm paranoid. I carry a gun because there are real threats in the world.I don't carry a gun because I'm evil. I carry a gun because I have lived long enough to see the evil in the world.I don't carry a gun because I hate the government. I carry a gun because I understand the limitations of government.I don't carry a gun because I'm angry. I carry a gun so that I don't have to spend the rest of my life hating myself for failing to be prepared.I don't carry a gun because I want to shoot someone. I carry a gun because I want to die at a ripe old age in my bed, and not on a sidewalk somewhere tomorrow afternoon.I don't carry a gun because I'm a cowboy. I carry a gun because, when I die and go to Heaven, I want to be a cowboy.I don't carry a gun to make me feel like a man. I carry a gun because men know how to take care of themselves and the ones they love.I don't carry a gun because I feel inadequate. I carry a gun because unarmed and facing three armed thugs, I am inadequate.I don't carry a gun because I love it. I carry a gun because I love life and the people who make it meaningful to me.

Agreed the story was sensationalized for the target audience, but the fact remains the girl did get a gun and was at least thinking of defending herself with it.

Makes me think of another 11 year old girl who was raped, tied to a bed alongside her sister, doused with gasoline, and burned alive. If only Dad or Mom had had a gun to protect themselves. Dad ends up the sole survivor, his family massacred.

He'd better be careful. That maple leaf on his shirt makes a nice target.

Big difference between exaggeration and promotion and the facts. I agree, the story was EMBELLISHED by the GUN Groups who posted the story but that is the case in every case.

Peace.
