He`s not wrong in his statement about a gun being used in a murder. It`s the wild ass guess at the numbers that I`m calling him out on.
Just like I`m calling you out on your statement about guns being used in that situation. Anyone in the frame of mind to kill a family member will do it regardless of the weapon of choice. Gun, knife, rock, fist, all will dispatch someone, it`s just the matter of efficiency.

What is common among the defenders of guns is the constant use of the excuse that the person who used the gun was nuts...but isnt that most gun owners?

Sorry bub, but ill chose to live in peace and quiet. I choose to live in a neighborhood where I dont need to have a gun or sleep with one within 100 miles of one. Ill make the choice to live my life in areas where I dont fear my neighbors, but embrace them as friends.
You all can live in the trenches where you have to live with your head on a swivel and your hands on an ammo clip and a pistol.

Careful, you're gonna twist an ankle there sport. The "gem" as you call it says nothing, absolutely nothing about gun owners being nuts. We all know that some are, but far away from all. The "gem" is saying that even if we removed all guns, ALL GUNS GONE the "nuts" would still kill that family member or next door neighbor or a stranger. Of course you already know that but just don't want to admit it.
I agree that there are too many murders in America WAY TOO many, one murder is too many. Guns are not the problem, murderers are the problem, guns are just ONE of the tools they use. Murderers will use whatever tool they can find and when they can't find a tool they will use their bare hands.
