Expensive..clearly you have no clue of the USA budget. Joe just saved us 2 Trillion leaving Middle East mess
We were spending $42 Billion a year in Afghanistan. And Joe kept us in the Middle East by ending our energy independence making us once again dependent on Middle Eastern oil. Which almost guarantees we'll be in another war soon which is what the military-industrial complex wants and why we were in Afghanistan for 20 years. Thank Trump too for getting us out of Afghanistan. If only he were still president we would have gotten everyone out and with dignity.

Didn’t Obama keep it going? I was on board with getting out of Afghanistan. I think even you would agree that the way we exited was a disaster.

I doubt he would ever admit Biden and company screwed up. And still haven't gotten out hundreds of Americans and tens of thousands of allies.

What you're not counting is the forward cost of caring for combat wounded veterans from that war. We left Afghanistan for the very same reasons the Russians left. No prospect of achieving a military victory and the staggering no end in site cost.
AS for energy independence . Current US daily oil production is 10 M barrels a day. The high water mark was 12.9 per day. And there's a reason it's lower.
During the height of the COVID crisis the price of oil fell to -35 bucks a barrel. That's right NEGATIVE $35. If you were an oil driller you had to give that refiner your barrel of oil and give him $35 just to get him to take it off their hands.

In the aftermath of that debacle the global oil industry made it abundantly clear that this situation would never be allowed to happen again and that the new benchmark for crude would be $60 a barrel and for the past many months oil has traded in the $65-75 range.
This is where they want it and this time they mean it as evidenced by their sizeable reduction in cap ex spending along with the implementation of a new varied dividend policy.

It went negative not only because of less demand during the start of the pandemic but also because of the dispute between Russia and Saudi Arabia. But that had nothing to do with Biden shutting down drilling on Federal land including ANWR which greatly.reduced American production and we once again have had to turn to Middle East oil. And we could have left Afghanistan long ago but it was Trump who initiated us leaving, not Biden. And between that and shutting down the southern border Washington made sure that Trump was booted out. He threw a monkey wrench into their plans and status quo.
