To each his own .I have a ton of living left, trips to take ,gigs to play. I find far more enjoyment from living than I do eating.

Eating/drinking those things won't kill you. In all things balance, nothing in excess.

Wait until you crack 50 years of age and are no longer on the pkg car.

Being on package car is probably more detrimental to my health than eating and drinking things I enjoy. It creates an imbalance of time (work/personal) and physical stress on my body, not to mention the other environmental hazards that come into play. But I balance that against the health and well-being of my family, and that makes it manageable. I will be far healthier, over all, when I stop driving and my work/life balance can be restored.

There is some validity to that statement.

But, it seems a little "over the top" or kind of mellow dramatic.

UPS isn't the only Union gig.

We have other Union brothers and sisters, that put in as much time and effort with their jobs.

The "elitism" displayed by UPS members is a joke. They don't even vote on their own contract.

"Let's take a picture of Amazon or FedEx parking on the wrong side of the street."

And then post it on FaceBook....

That is what their time is consumed with.

That escalated quickly.
Who's being melodramatic now? What does my sharing my subjective experience have to do with being an elitist?

Perhaps if the unions could negotiate working conditions that didn't leave us so physically exhausted all the time that we can barely attend to our personal lives, then maybe we could be more active in the union. Maybe upsers spend so much time on social media because they are too tired and don't have the time to maintain social relationships otherwise.

I have been lurking

Tired hubrat
I retired on a Friday and the following Wednesday i went to my center and dropped of a box with everything uniform related.I only kept my rain jacket and wear it when i'm fishing in the rain. Weight wise I have actually LOST two pounds in the six months since I've retired.I'm very strict about portions, eating healthy ( no sugar,no bread, potatoes or rice, NOTHING fried) and avoiding Beer. On the days I'm not at the animal Sanctuary I walk two miles in the morning and another two in the evening to keep the ticker ticking . I am not a big foodie so its all good.
If you wanna go further, cut fruit and below-ground vegetables and corn

I remember when I first started on pre-load, there were 2 drivers who were well over 300#. Their huge guts hanging out the bottom of their work shirts. I just couldn't understand how they could get so big, considering what job demanded.

I would think you'd would have to drown yourself in empty calories on a daily basis throughout your day to keep that weight on.

We have some heavy set guys, two had to sign up for a weight loss center to be able to lose weight. I've seen some guys who start out heavy, and thin right up. I think it's a basal metabolism issue. If you have to eat alot to maintain weight, then the increase in physical activity will have a bigger impact. If you struggle to lose weight regardless, being a package driver isn't necessarily a guaranteed weight loss program.

I don’t agree with much you post, but the elitism of UPSers is comical. You’d swear some of these were performing heart surgery and saving lives, not handling cardboard.

I thought it was just a mild observation ?
Oh, so, in your view, calling people jokes and saying they are elitist is a mild observation. And that as a response to someone commenting on work/life balance. Like it's unreasonable to want more personal time, and to not be exhausted when you do get it. If that's the mentality shared by all union reps, it explains a lot about why teamsters do absolutely nothing to put the brakes on UPS taking more and more of our personal time and our dignity.

Honestly, the things you say sometimes make me think you are trying to discredit the union.

I assume this doesn't have anything to do with my post, simply a response to BUG, but what is it that makes you think upsers are elitist?

It is a response to BUG, but do you ever observe the center office prior to start time? The divas are cackling like hens, complaining about everything but offering zero solutions. Everything and everyone has to be perfect- except the driver. He is allowed to be sick, tired, fatigued and it’s ok to be a smile**y performer but no one else is. The preloader, the ORS, the manager, the OMS, the customer all have to be perfect for the driver to be satisfied. Its like preschool in the center office. Then to finish the day, we sit around in the office and recap the smile**y preloader ORS, manager, OMS and customers…that is elitist behavior. Also comical.

FFS what would you repeat if everyone at ups voted on the contract? I'm not so sure the vote wasn't tampered with so your boyfriend Denis could push this crap contract through. Don't bother sending some stuttering comment. We've heard it a thousand times.........

Well, the only problem with this statement, is that the company fires and disciplines drivers when things don’t go perfectly. The company time allowance is obviously fatally flawed, no one in my building runs under anymore except for a few runners that load their truck for two hours off the clock. If we seem to be acting “elitist”, it’s mainly from the standard to which we are held to. The funny thing is, management will call us names, but you couldn’t do the job. Add in aging and fifteen to 25 years of daily beat downs and you’d be crying on your mommas lap, we all know this. So I’ll keep laughing in your face while you call me an elitist. And you’ll get moved to another job in another building and I’ll still be laughing along in my center doing the same job I’ve always done.

Don’t ever go feeder. Your head will explode. We are some of the biggest entitled children you have ever come across. And honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.

I actually get the feeder entitlement. But smile**y package car drivers are a dime a dozen.
