Well, we know who opposes immigration reform. The far left with their need for voters and the greedy corporations that exploit immigrants by paying them peanuts.

Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act (RAISE Act) A Bill to Raise Working Wages & Boost American Competitiveness

The RAISE Act Solution

The Reforming American Immigration for a Strong Economy Act (RAISE Act) would spur economic growth and help raise working Americans’ wages ending chain migration, giving priority to the most skilled immigrants from around the world, and reducing overall immigration by half. Specifically, the RAISE Act would:

Establish a Skills-Based Points System. The RAISE Act would replace the current permanent employment-visa framework with a skills-based points system, akin to the systems used by Canada and Australia. The system would prioritize those immigrants who are best positioned to succeed in the United States and expand the economy. Applicants earn points based on education, English-language ability, high-paying job offers, age, record of extraordinary achievement, and entrepreneurial initiative.

Prioritize Immediate Family Households. The RAISE Act keeps immigration preferences for the spouses and minor children of U.S. residents, encouraging the unification of nuclear families. It eliminates preferences for extended family and grown adult family members of U.S. residents. For U.S. citizens who need to bring elderly parents to the United States for care-taking purposes, the bill creates a renewable temporary visa for such parents.

Eliminate the Outdated Diversity Visa Lottery. The Diversity Lottery is plagued with fraud, advances no economic or humanitarian interest, and does not even promote diversity. It is an arbitrary way to distribute the precious privilege of U.S. citizenship, and the RAISE Act would eliminate it.

Place a Responsible Limit on Permanent Residency for Refugees. The RAISE Act would limit refugees offered permanent residency to 50,000 per year, in line with a 13-year average.

Sounds racist, terrible, and unfair.

only white people speak English. :)

Montreal's Olympic Stadium used to house surge in asylum seekers crossing from U.S.

Mayor welcomes asylum seekers
Montreal Mayor Denis Coderre wrote on Twitter that the city welcomes the Haitian asylum seekers. In his tweet, he calls them refugees, but it's unclear if they've been given refugee status at this point.

"You can count on our full co-operation," he wrote.

However, it's unclear if they'll be able to stay. Asylum seekers originally from Haiti who have crossed the Canada-U.S. border could be deported back to Haiti if their application is refused, because Canadian authorities deem Haiti as a sufficiently safe country.

Because our country can no longer afford to take in anyone and everyone. Why should we? I like the idea of the skills-based points system. It works well for Canada as well as New Zealand and Australia. We have enough Americans on welfare. It makes no sense to allow others to come here from poor countries for us to support them. Why not a system where one has to prove they can ADD something of value to our country rather than take away?

For one, it's unAmerican to only allow immigrants based on skills, education, and English proficiency. Secondly, the majority of welfare recipients are white American citizens. Every immigrant ADDS to this country, whether skilled or not. This policy is nothing but an attempt to make America WHITE AGAIN.

I'm aware the majority of welfare recipients are white. I'm not talking about them OR the Black American welfare recipients. As far as the policy, you're stereotyping immigrants when saying it's an attempt to make America white again. There are plenty of African as well as Indian people who meet the points based requirements who would have no problems getting in, as well as Asians and non-white people from other countries. The ones who will have a problem are uneducated and have no special skills.

You really need to research H-1B Visas and how American corporations have exploited these workers to push skilled Americans out of jobs and lower wages for these skilled workers.

The new policy is 'Smart American' ... you're an apologist for 'Dumb European' immigration policy.
