Is being an overachiever at UPS worth it?

Ask Canada why they still have doctors? As for myself, I take pride in my work...union or not!......I get paid to do a job and I do it the best that I can....its called work ethic

Canada has a huge doctor shortage. Even though they still make more than average people. Canada is kinda socialism light. It's still a lot of free market.

the "overachievers" at my hub have to do more work, they do get more hours and are rarely written up, get a few favors with hours
or other stuff but expected at work everyday on time and to work at a fast pace.

by the book guys are not liked by management and always moved to isolated areas so they dont tell everyone else to work the
same way they are also first to be written up and management doesnt let them leave early for school or second jobs.

the kiss ass get to work slow and only get warning if there attendance becomes a huge problem but they settle
it by buying management beers at a bar from what i have seen so far.

then theres the work safely guy which take as much time as they like, they dont get to many favors but management always tries
to cut their hours asap or leave them in areas where work rate doesnt matter.

incase you are wondering im in the overachievers category not by choice, but would like to be in the kiss ass category. do your body a favor
just work safe, i have never been injured but everyones body/genetics are different so know your limits. they screwed me by putting in areas where my "seniority" doesnt mean anything next to the full timers and by saying "youre the only one trained for that position with less seniority"

That’s Craptacular
not me---he's his own worst enemy:
Very true, Rod. He's a self propelled train wreck..doesn't need any help with that..lol. I can't wait for the next installment in the Dave series of threads. "Upstate has a splinter" or "Upstate's fallen...and he can't get up! (but can post from the bathroom floor while he waits for the EMTs to arrive...) lol

You'd think upstate would be a little smarter about his posts. He would chop off his nose to spite his face.

Well, I wouldnt kiss anybody ass for anything, thats just not how I roll. I have too much pride to do that, I dont even like asking anybody for anything. Since Im young and strong, I will work very hard until I am about 23-25. Then start working very slowly and safely.

I like to go fast. Stats are fun to beat and going slow makes the day go slower. But in a physical labor union job. You arent gonna see any benefits other than people liking you more. They'll just give you more work. And when going fast gets you hurt they turn their back on you instantly. Just do whatever makes you happy and long as you dont do anything that violates the contract, you'll never get fired.

Look around you how happy are people in your hub, how long have they been there. I was at 3 different UPS hubs in Illinois the last was bad. Items being thrown such as a chair at me and others people in groups picking on others

Just ask yourself "what happens if I overachieve?" This applies to many levels of management to. In my opinion you will get a pat on the back for meeting efficiency goals and then a new set of efficiency goals. Your body will break before the fact that stock prices are largely tied to worker efficiency. If it's not rising, it's a failure.
